I went to their site to check on any Eastern response to the game the other night. The only Eastern response on three different threads was Luckeyone, and that was about James Thompson, and he started the thread about how good he is.
Luckeyone also made one other response in their prediction thread, and picked them to win.
So there was no bragging or ragging about how good Eastern was compared to Northern. It was them coming to our site and bragging about how good they are, and how their center was better than Thompson. They obviously felt they had to say something here, because of some of the comments made by our people. You are right about it being childish, especially since it was one game out of a 25-30 game season.
Wow Ken, if they were saying their center is better than Thompson, then they have no credibility whatsoever. That is just a ridiculous statement and they cannot be serious.

It was a home win for them on a cold night in January. Eastern did not play well, but credit to NIU, they did what they had to do, congratulations for that. But to come here and brag like they just won a first round NCAA tournament game? I don't get that at all.

When you have been as bad for so long as we have any victory over a respected opponent is like winning a tournament game...we are starved for anything positive

This is a common practice in the MAC. That's always been annoying to me because EMU is the poster child for poor attendance when the reality is that most of the conference struggles.

I think in football NIU's numbers are fairly accurate (not very good, but mostly accurate) from what I can tell (because I know one side holds 14K and the other 10K so I can get a general idea), but the basketball numbers look higher than actual attendance somewhat. When they announce 1,000 people it looks like about 600, maybe 700 at most, to me. It's pretty sad that if I took the time I could probably count everybody in the place.

Agree. And I wish I knew who counted as an attendee. Cheerleaders, band, press row game officials, ushers, concession stand folks, ticket takers, others such as emeritus faculty who may get season tickets, probably without charge and may or may not use those tickets, as part of their faculty status, etc. etc.

And I agree that it most cases you can't compare attendance amongst a lot of schools since everyone reports it differently.

Our tickets are bar coded and scanned when you come in. Being a long time season ticket holder the attendance at bb games appear to be pretty accurate. If you want to fudge numbers go for a bigger number

I agree. Your reported number looked accurate. We're used to seeing exaggerated numbers from Mac schools, especially for football.
