So when you interviewed for your job did you tell them you were happy to be there but will move on to another company if offered significantly more money and a better opportunity for exposure?
I think what Bridgeforth is saying is that he said that in his Texas State presser. What I heard he said was that his plan was to take JMU to FBS as that is what he had been told would be happening. Going to listen this weekend and confirm that.
Yes, as a TxSt fan, I listened to the presser, and he said that a big reason he took the job at JMU is he wanted to be the coach that took JMU to the FBS level.
If true, this is a big deal to me and very disappointing and disheartening for the future.

The context makes the way he stated it very different. He just didn't want to wait for the time JMU does move up.

Come on....take the blinders off. It was in his contract (FBS salary), and it was clearly a major selling point to Withers.

RE: Withers Leaving
Withers was hired at a time when, according to some, JMU was convinced a MAC invite was imminent. Some of that information may have been communicated to him during the interview process. Then UMass decided not to leave the MAC and JMU's imminent invitation was gone.

I just can't believe that he thought JMU was going to be FBS after two years with no FBS movement or invites. If he did he would have showed a little more patience. No blinders here , when he interviewed i'm sure he knew we turned down the Sunbelt already.

If he wanted to do that he would have stayed a little longer. A FBS transition at this time is not going to happen unless there is some movement in the FBS ranks. And on this level we need coaches to stick around at least three to four years because we don't recruit the type of players who can impact games in their first or second years of playing. FCS players need more development.
An FBS transition is never going to happen. JMU has actively closed that door repeatedly.
Bourne's latest line; "it is what it is"....okay Jeffrey, your are correct, it is what it is...you are are a liar. JMU alum are stuck with you squatting as JMU's AD until you retire a rich man after a career technicality lies to the DC.
I respect my Duke Club representative, please stop telling her to lie to me about JMU athletics.

RE: Withers Leaving
I like Coach Withers and I think he did a good job in his two years here. As far as Vad being the reason for his success--well, he's not the first JMU coach to inherit an FBS QB who performed well for us (see Justin Rascati and Mike Cawley). I'd also ask if Phil Jackson is a lousy coach because he had Jordan, Pippen, Shaq and Kobe.
I don't wish Coach Withers any ill will because I'm not a hater.
I do think it was unprofessional of him to leave so soon. I think if you take a job as head coach, you commit to a minimum four to five year stint, unless the situation is awful (which it was not) or the team fires you. So I fault him for using us as a stepping stone.
So, good luck, we're all moving on, and go Dukes.

Wait so you are saying EW was lied to by JB or Alger or King during the interview process? Nope, don't believe it. Those guys are saints and would never mislead anybody.
Alger is a lawyer and a liberal....he cannot tell the difference between a lie and the truth.

The ones Withers has decided are not good coaches based on their track record with him.
The clock is ticking for JMU recruits. They need to see a new head coach and his recruiting assistants soon

Not sure why there is still all the bitching about no movement on the FBS front. There is no where for JMU to go but the Sun Belt and that is not going to happed. I continue to believe that once conference realignment begins again we will make a move to FBS. If Withers took the job banking on JMU making a move then he took a gamble on that and it didn't pan out. He's moving and so will JMU. The timing sucks but in a few years when we are in The AAC, MAC, or CUSA no one will care about Withers or Texas State.
