NCAA: Despotic?
Time for the biggest programs to break away from this organization.
NCAA Sucks!!!
Amazing they can investigate schools for nearly a decade and make up rules as they go along. State schools are in better shape to defend themselves though...the Private schools really get run through the ringer.

RE: NCAA: Despotic?
No idea if that Oliver Luck story is true, but the thought of him walking into a bar, ordering 10 shots of Crown for him and his "new friends" and then leaving (sticking them with the bill) is hilarious.
The NCAA, to put it simply, is no longer big/strong/authoritative enough to be policing all of FBS/Division 1. With the move to these larger conferences, and the sight of "super conferences" upon us, the time has come for conferences to begin policing themselves by hiring their own investigators/reporters/committees. Overseeing 10/12/14/16 schools and their programs (instead of 160+) is much more effective and efficient. There's just no way to keep track of everything, which is why a lot of the stuff slips through the cracks.

It's been time to break away from the NCAA for awhile.
The whole system sucks and is created to pad the pockets and egos of Emmert and Co. It really is a total sham.
After the APR crap and the death of the Big East - nothing really surprises me anymore (I never saw that Syracuse-related article despite it being from March)

Oliver Luck has had an issue with Cuse back to his infamous comments when announced we were leaving for the ACC. To put him in a decision making position in the investigation was wrong.

What does the death of the Big East have to do with the NCAA?
Be careful what you wish for - no guarantee that any replacement organization would be better or return more money to the schools.

NCAA: Despotic?
What exactly is going to be different in a new organization? The balance of power doesn't change. The P5 have gotten everything they have wanted since the early 70's at the least except for the $2k stipend and they ended up getting even more later.
There are schools who are stuck under the NCAA but the 65 P5 schools aren't it. They already make the rules and carry the weight in who is hired, breaking to escape the NCAA is like crossing the street hoping to escape your shadow.

RE: NCAA: Despotic?
There could be major lawsuits by many schools that wants to be with the P5 65 schools. I do not think the P5 schools that have connections with the little brothers would want to live them behind. Could the 65 schools take all the D1 schools that play football with them except for some FCS schools?
AAC
ACC
Big Sky
Big 10
Big 12
C-USA
CAA (none of the basketball schools can join.)
MAC
MVFC
MWC
PAC 12
SEC
Southland
Sun Belt
Coastal Carolina
Kennesaw State
Liberty (they will be in as only an Independent.)
Central Connecticut State
Jacksonville State
Eastern Kentucky
Tennessee State
Dayton (would be willing to try and keep up.)
Chattanooga
The Citadel and VMI needs to be able to play Army, Navy and Air Force.
Western Carolina
East Tennessee State
Wichita State
Big West conference could reformed.
Gonzaga restarts football?
VCU restarts football?
George Mason restarts football?
Big East to start sponsoring football as a sport, and all the schools match with scholarships?
Milwaukee restarts football, could go into the MAC or MVFC.
Top D2 football schools to move into spots to fill in?

RE: NCAA: Despotic?
The big programs ARE the NCAA. They set the rules and do whatever they want. Why would they leave?
