Good win for Marshall last night. They had a senior score 38 in a win over Wyoming at a tournament in Vegas. If Houston had won, they would have played the Coogs in the championship, but UH lost to Grand Canyon so Marshall plays the Antelopes in the finals now.

What in the world has happened to UTEP? After a 5-0 start, they now have lost 5 straight, including a loss to Norfolk State last night at home?? We definitely won't face a confident UTEP team when we open CUSA play at their place at the end of the year.

According to UTEP's coach Tim Floyd:

Quote:... Norfolk State ... outrebounded the Miners 43-26 and tallied 17 second-chance points.

“We got pounded again on the boards, and not by a very big and physical team,” Floyd said.

The Miners allowed 70+ points for the sixth game in a row and 80 or more for the third time in that stretch.

“We don’t want to be a zone team,” Floyd said. “We want to try to improve the guys that we have so that we have an opportunity to play in close games and tight games in our league late in the season. But it’s a big frustration with the inability to stop people. This has been my worst defensive team in my career. But we’re going to keep working on it. And we’re going to keep trying to get better.”

Today in the consolation game of the "WestStar Bank Don Haskins Sun Bowl Invitational" presented by ... (No? Ooops, sorry.) ... the Miners will face Sam Houston State, who lost yesterday to UC-Irvine, 63-53.

That's a sneaky good UCI team who, admittedly as a bit of a gimmick, started the other night what is believed to be the tallest starting lineup in college basketball history - including a 7'2" shooting guard.
