Was the OC for UCF with Summers ( interim DC) back when they won the 2014 Fiesta Bowl.
He is fully retired. He has a good job as commentator. He also was a Pro-Style OC, I don't see GSU going Pro-style.

Here's something to add to your Christmas list.

From what I gather he's in, and a tremendous get. Guy has forgotten more about developing QBs and offense than most coaches ever pick up.
Great hire IMO.

I just hope he's classier than Willie Fritz. I've always hated Georgia Southern on principle, but I respected them until recently. I hope that can change again.

Honestly, assuming recruiting holds its path this year, we won't miss a beat. Defense probably gets better.
Interested to see his staff.

I can't remember for sure because I am old but didn't he run an option offense at Citadel in the early 90's with Jack Douglas at QB?

I hear you... GS's last 2 HC's have done some real unsportsmanlike things that really passed me off as a fan.
Faking a punt against Savannahs State while up 40, going for 2 against Furman with a minute to go while up 3 TD's, and the classless banner on the field against GSU. I want the program to be known for winning big the right way, not stupid crap like that.

The banner on the field was not a call by the HC. I'm not exactly happy with Fritz either but I'll defend him on this. That was more fan led than anything to do with the coaching staff.

So a football coach does what the fans want him to do? BS. He was certainly there smiling and posing for pictures. He wanted to do that. Money was spent to create that awful looking banner.

He has been a coordinator for many different types of offenses. He had powerful option attacks at The Citadel, Army, and Maryland.

I don't think the system would be a problem for Taaffe. That being said, he is 65 and he retired as an OC near the height of his success and just two years ago turned down the HC job at the Citadel. He also lives in Orlando and has a job as a television color commentator and works with a QB camp. Who knows, but I would be quite surprised if he came out of retirement.

RE: Georgia Southern hires Tyson Summers as head coach
At first I didn't approve of this hire, but after reading a little more into who Summers is, I'm cautiously optimistic. I'm glad we got someone who is used to coaching at some large G5 schools and hopefully he can stick around long enough to turn GS into that. He seems like a fantastic recruiter and I'm glad he'll have a defensive mind in coaching. Plus, he's Presbyterian so you know he has a good head on his shoulders.

Georgia Southern hires Tyson Summers as head coach
This will be a great hire. What I've heard is Taafe is a done deal, the guy knows his offenses and is an incredible developer or QBs (something we definitely need). Summer's ability to recruit in this area will be huge because he has connections and pre-existing relations with just about everyone.
Summer's is also a defensive oriented guy and can work especially with our DBs and Safeties. From what I've heard he wants to keep McGee and Lunsford on staff (think recruiting).
I think this was a great hire.

Man, I really hope your right about McGee and Lunsford. That would be really great for our program.

You should be glad that you were rid of him so soon. Rumor is that he turned off a whole lot of high school staffs with his recruiting tactics. If I were you guys I would be sick to my stomach at the way you got Obe Fortune to flip last year.
