Do we need to see the three man weave for the first ten seconds of every offensive man to man set? We have lost what little identity we had. Folks this has been five years of teachable moments.
Monmouth has not been on a five year rebuilding program.
Yes, the frustration is that it should not take 5 years to rebuild a basketball team - assuming you have a system and can recruit the right players. We are still rebuilding, and it's always wit till next year. Well, lets see what happens when MAC play starts. Maybe we'll be surprised.
5-26
2-25
15-17
14-16
8-2
Previous 5 yrs to that, most wins was 10.
2 winning seasons since NCAA team 20 yrs ago.
11 winning seasons in 40+ years.
I would think 8-2 to start, a .500+ season ANYTIME for this program is a good, let alone where is is coming from.
Seems more of decades of frustrations than with anything current. I think if they won 40-39 people should be happy.
What has been so frustrating for me is that I like basketball much more than football. Yet, I have sat in the Convo every year for so many years shaking my head at the mediocrity (at best). Nothing is more frustrating than seeing all the missed FTs, layups, and short jumpers with the frequency we miss them. Coupled with the apparent attitude from the administration on basketball, and is it any wonder that we continually get 1,000 or less in attendance? I will continue to attend the games because I love basketball, but it does get very tiring after so many years.
This year, we look to be better (so far) and I am cautiously optimistic (a little), but again we have the typical growing pains. So, I am keeping my fingers crossed that it will continue into MAC play and we really surprise some people. Including me.

I did until early 2000's. Late 80's, early 90's I bet I went to 3x, maybe 5x as many basketball than football. I probably went to as many girls bb games as football, probably more for at least a couple seasons.
I know it's perennial losing, but maybe a tournaround for a couple yrs will lead to at least winning seasons. Then, who knows what my happen. While Molinari was handed a team of upper classmen, I wonder what would might have been has he stayed.

RE: Florida International @ NIU predictions
saw this significant stat online: " Travon Baker and Michael Orris rank first and second in the MAC in assist/turnover ratio. Baker ranks first at 3.2, 32nd nationally, and Orris is second at 2.5." This is what wins games.
As far as Orris defense, 222, you must not watch the games or you just follow the ball. Much defense takes place away from the ball...Orris is quite good at understanding and executing team defensive principles.
If the freshman want more time, they are going to have to stop turning the ball over and become solid in the team defense scheme.
You don't give guys minutes just cuz they score when ignoring the other aspects of the game.

Orris has got to be produce something offensively though, you cant have someone eat that many minutes just for a good assist/turnover ratio. And typically running a weave until the shotclock is down to 3 is not going to give a large number of turnovers.

Cagey, Orris's play does not warrant 20 some minutes a game! You say the freshman need to earn their minutes by playing better defense, how about Orris needs to earn his minutes by making a free throw, making a shot, getting more steals, pushing the ball up court more. He is a 10-12 minute back up point guard at this level. For NIU to win MAC games they will need another scorer playing 20 some minutes not Orris!

Hopefully when Pauga gets back he will start taking some of Orris's minutes.

RE: Florida International @ NIU predictions
Austin will get some of Armstead minutes when he is ready....Wilson and Porter will get some Orris and Baker minutes when they are ready.
Orris' play might not warrant 20 some minutes a game to a fan but obviously, the coaches think differently right now. If the coaching staff listened to you guys, they would not be 8-2.
No one (probably not even the coaches) disagrees that another scorer would be very helpful but, that scorer has to help the team get stops and cannot make too many unforced turnovers at critical times. When the team comes together and meshes both offensively and defensively they will be a forced to be reckoned with in the MAC. When Porter and Wilson improve their defense their minutes will rise as will their scoring averages and the team will be much more dangerous.
The concern is that if the freshman are like some posters on this board and continue to not fully appreciate the necessity of executing the game plan defensively AND offensively, this team cannot realize its full potential. However, I truly believe if they buy in fully, the dawgs will be dancing out of Cleveland.

I don't want to pile on Orris but I think his A/T ratio will come back down to reality at some point. He destroyed against Eureka, IU-Northwest and Chicago State. Stats put up against those teams shouldn't even be taken into consideration. If you take those games out he has 10 assists and 7 turnovers in 150 minutes. I wouldn't say he's a defensive liability but he doesn't seem like an impact defensive player either. Hopefully we can get a good split between him and the other guards. Is Pauga still out due to a concussion?
