RE: ODU Basketball Season Melt Down
So I guess it's only the marquee wins that gets the fan base rejoiced - after the Richmond post game JJ mentioned things were going to change - I thought as a fan base folks would chat about what they saw in regards to that but like I said criticism is easier to dish out more than it is to remark on other things. I forget that the season lies 100% on fan expectation more than actual results .

Our actual results are 5-6, 3 wins over the MEAC, and no wins away from the Ted. Our best win is over RPI 135 Buffalo.

Go throw them a parade if you want; I'd rather see real on-court improvement over quality competition before rejoicing in another blowout over a woefully overmatched, barely D-1 team that whores itself out for guarantee games in December.

I hope things do change. Beat URI and I'll rejoice. As of now we are 0-5 in what should be 50/50 games, not counting Purdue since that was a long shot even if we brought our A game.

Yep. Still time to turn the season around, but blowing out UMES is not a sign of that.

No, but I think it is fair to say that JJ has not yet "lost" the team as some had speculated.

I wasn't saying we should rejoice over the win last night - I was asking for dialogue on what changed -line up (Bacote not starting) rotations, Stiths play, defensive aggressiveness ,coaching etc. instead we get I'm not gonna get excited anymore - well the remaining schedule likely only has 1 top 100 RPI team left (URI) The way I see it there a lot of games left and at large was gone weeks ago so what else can we "rejoice over" or we can continue the fan entitlement pity parade because the players didn't fulfill their obligation of keeping us pleased.

Short of booing the team from the stands (which should NEVER happen at the college level), I am not sure why it would matter to anyone whether other fans are happy or miserable.

That's one of those personal choices that simply doesn't matter -- unless you choose to let it bother you.

You are correct - good point . But I guess that can be aligned with any opinion as we all have them and not necessarily all the same that we can agree on as well.

The difference, IMO, was the opponent. Bacote started and Stith didn't play against Delaware State and the result was the same. I got excited after that performance and then we went on to choke away a winnable game at fGSU and got run out of the gym in Richmond. Call it a lesson learned and an exercise of managing my expectations so as not to have another let down next week.

ODU Basketball Season Melt Down
We have minimal depth this season. Last season the team gelled very well and had no injuries. I really think this team will be a successful one still.

Any objective observer has to like the arc of the program. I question the perspective of anyone who mentions JJ's or WS's job security.

RE: ODU Basketball Season Melt Down
Eh, when a fifth of your team starts the season suspended, the two biggest point producers are severely under performing, the entire team can't shoot 3s or FTs at the moment and you have no real inside offensive presence a 5-6 record isn't shocking. JJ deserves some blame for the overall roster construction (two big men walkons going up against VCU's 3/4 * front court, really?) this year and the minutes distribution but at some point the kids have to hit shots at a higher level.

Outside of Blaine's last year, I have never seen a team struggle so much to hit open shots and with floor spacing. Thankfully with the roster next year a lot of these issues will be fixed. At least Talley looks like a stud. Him and B.J. Stith should carve up the CUSA for years.

Under .500 in football and what looks like a 18ish win Bball season. Yuck

WS-Agree. He's not going anywhere. However, a.500 career basketball coach is always under the microscope. The mens roster has been in flux for a number of reasons, not the least of which has been transfers out. Let's hope that trend does not continue beyond last year.

Two players have transferred out. And going into the season did you honestly see Palmore or Clark playing ahead of the guards we had?

407-310 is not a career 500 coach. Batten was not offered a 5th year. Some of the Blaine guys should never had been given scholarships

My point being if this year is a disaster, let's hope Caver and/or Talley don't move on.

Caver and Talley aren't going anywhere after this year....you can never say never, but it wouldn't be for basketball reasons.
