USM facility upgrade
USM announced today a $1.6 million facility upgrade/renovation of the football locker room, weight room and creation of a nutrition center. Work is scheduled to start a week from today when the team leaves for the Dallas bowl. Someone with more computer skills can probably add the photos and such in. The improvements are way overdue IMO as the locker room and weight room have had little to no improvements made since they were rebuilt from scratch to start the 2002 season.

Maybe the weight room upgrade is part of any agreement to keep S&C Coach Woodfin around a little longer 03-idea

I would say they, men's basketball, will have to start winning again for it to happen but just a guess. If irony has anything to do with it, notice the football improvements happen the same year we became relevant again. 13 years ago when the football facility was built it was one of the better ones in the conference but lately it had been one of the older/least modern due to years of no attention/upgrades and lack of funds. Also, it is a lot easier to raise $1.6 mil than it is for $25 mil.

The facility in its current state is still at the top of this group. Other than the locker room, these upgrades will help every athlete on campus. Not just football.

Rice is getting a new building.
Tech just opened a new building.
ODU just announced a $4.2 million, 17,000 square foot expansion.
UAB met with architects last week for the new football operations building.

Great stuff for the conference.

RE: USM facility upgrade
Lets be honest. That facility is only 12 yrs old. What we are doing is retooling the weight room. Converting the m club room so they can cook instead of catering food after practice. Lockers bet beat up. We are replacing them and redoing the entire room.
No shortcuts were taken when that facility was built. It is doing 2 things. Making sure we stay at the top in football facilities and countering the claims mtsu and uab coaches are making all over Mississippi. The Monken wont be around after next year wont work against us any more.

RE: USM facility upgrade
Just heard a few tidbits on the monday BGN radio show.

With the bower center renovation, there are 2 class rooms in the football facility that can be utilized due to those moving. Southern bone and joint evidently no longer runs a clinic in the duff center.

That space will be taken in by the weight room to enlarge it. If your standing between the duff center and the practice field, the entire first floor left side will be used by strength and conditioning.

We are getting ahead of most all G5 and some p5 schools by bringing the nutrition center inside the duff center.

The bower center must happen. The duff upgrades will help tremendously. Then the Yurt will likely be done in stages. We have an ad who doesnt speak until the I's are dotted. We finally have grown ups in charge.

Marshall and WKU do, and probably several others. I think that you show recruits an IPF and then you don't use it unless the team is really beat up. According to some people I don't know much about football.

Very similar to what Tech has, and believe it or not, about the same as LSU. I guess this is the new style for locker rooms.

There's a lot of Zac Woodfin in this design, and that's good.

WKU does not have an indoor practice facility. It is on the next thing to do list though.

RE: USM facility upgrade
MT has talked about an IPF. And Massaro has spoken as though it's the next item on the capital improvements agenda. Not so sure that we need one or that we see one in the next 5-10 years.
