Duquesne is 7-2, their best start in years (which is neither here nor there). Their overall defense is excellent (40.8%), but their perimeter defense is very weak (40.5%). In other words, teams shoot virtually the same from the arc against them as they do overall.

I have started paying a little more attention to that statistical phenomenon since our numbers are comparable (35.7% vs. 34.9%). It is obvious that there are a number of coaches out there whose teams play outstanding defense, but who are willing to give up the perimeter shot in order to defend the interior, so there has to be a logical strategic reason for that, even though I do not understand it.

Maybe it is because the 3 is so protected (3-shot foul).
