RE: First Game 2017 is.....
I'd love for it to be Alabama A/M. I think BBF is on the right line that we have the potential to be saltier than our opponents expect. I think we all have great expectations from 600 days of weight training, but also the opportunity to have an entire year for players to work on technique without the necessity of game planning.

If our coaches are as sharp as I think they are, our fundamental mistakes should be virtually non-existent

Two years of not playing is bound to cause a bit of rust, though. May take a few games to shake it off...

True, but they wont have much video on us.

We saw how things almost turned out at Mississippi State last year when they had designed their game plan based on stopping the run, because of how we ran all over troy. We had a chance to come back when we recovered the onside kick, only to have the SEC refs had the ball back to them.

Fortunately, our staff will have plenty of footage Florida.

The Swamp - also one of the ugliest stadium in the country. Everything in the stadium painted an ugly combination of blue and orange.

I cant wait to return and give em hell!

I have often said those were the WORST fans I've ever been around. Hands down

Folks- all fans have some element of the rude to them. Florida just happens to be the ONLY thing Gainesville, so per capita, more students go to the games, and most college kids think themselves cute, but are usually just plain rude.

Florida was bad...but the fans in both Columbias (MO & SC) were much worse IMHO.

I've been to many college football stadiums, across the country, in all sorts of conferences. Every place I've been, I've met good fans and bad.
That's the only place I've ever left and said that those fans were just downright awful. We tailgated next to a very nice couple in their late 50s. They were very pleasant, and outside of gameday, I think I would have loved liked them.
But when it game to sports in general, they were degrading and condescending...and they were the closest thing I saw or met to nice people.
It wasn't limited to students.

I'm just saying that was my personal experience. I stand firm that, for me (and only me), it was my worst ever gameday experience, and it's not even close.

Remember that game well. One of my fellow Mortimer Jordan alumns Sam Kendrick was a DL for that team.

Whenever the discussion turns to "winnable games" in advance, I recall the 2000 season. Since UAB lacked one conference game that year, C-USA asked us to designate one OOC game as a proxy conference game. We chose @ Kansas rather than @ LSU and you know how that choice turned out. Since we don't even know who will be wearing green & gold on that day in 2017, it just might be that we can win any game we play.

BTW, Labor Day in 2017 is September 4th.

Of all the places I've travelled for UAB games, that Florida game in 2003 was the worst when it comes to opposing fans. I actually felt unsafe walking to the stadium. College kids were f-bombing me and my wife who were wearing UAB gear and just quietly walking to the stadium in a sea of orange and blue.

Been to UF for the FAU game this year, rooting and screaming for FAU. It depends on the fans around you. Had one guy try to sau something to us. He never said anything again (no tuff guy talk. We ignored him and just got louder.)
Been to Ole Miss, not impressed with the stadium or fans.

Either way, I'll have 4 for the first game back.

Troy football fans I encountered in Pike County were both rude and stupid. A deadly combination.
