Felicity Jones did a great job as Jyn Erso. I'd like to see more of her in SW movies. Not sure how that would happen though. Best female SW character since Princess Leia (not so fond of General Leia and her out-of-nowhere new "powers" which just did not make any sense in TLJ.)

Yeah I think that'd be a bit difficult, they'd have to go younger and I think anything of interest from her younger years is already in a book. The positive thing with Qi'ra is they can move her forward. The only thing odd about Leia's use of the Force is that Leia did it, and its in space. The act itself is no different than pushing/pulling with the Force that other people do. I didn't mind the act itself but the way it was shot just came out odd.

They could have fixed that with one scene of her in her room or somewhere private, before the explosion, doing something small, yet taxing, with the force, like she'd been working with it for some time. Like straining/concentrating to bring her hairbrush to her hand from a table or something.

Your post made me laugh, but I'm not sure for the reasons you intended. "hairbrush."

RE: OT: Star Wars Thread [Warning: Spoilers]
Haven't seen it yet, as I wanted to wait until the big crowds subsided a bit opening weekend. But...saw several articles claiming it's not doing as well as hoped. Of course, an "only" $103 million opening weekend is a major hit for just about any other movie (still good enough for the best Memorial Day haul in four years.) The bar is somewhat higher for SW films, it seems. Rogue One was top grossing film in 2106, according to one article.

Will still go see it, as I have seen nothing yet that tells me it's as bad as VIII:TLJ.

here's one link with no spoilers, just about box office results so far: https://www.yahoo.com/news/may-flop-inqu...49293.html

and another more optimistic one, again no spoilers, predicting a decent second week: https://screenrant.com/solo-movie-box-of...edictions/

Quote:general audiences seem to like what they're seeing. Anyone who's been following Howard on Twitter the past week know that fan reactions to the spinoff are encouraging. Several people have already seen Solo multiple times in theaters, so it's feasible for Solo to draw in sizable crowds this weekend. Many viewers were skeptical of the project's prospects for a variety of reasons, but now that the consensus is that Solo is a fun heist film (and not the train wreck several feared), those who didn't go rushing out on opening night may be more inclined to check it out on the big screen and see what they think.

Saw Solo. I thought it was quite good.
Would like to see a sequel to it.
Will write more shortly.

I was pleasantly surprised by Solo. I didn't really care about seeing a backstory for him but they did some cool things with a film not focused on an galaxy wide conflict.

Saw Solo at the drive-in. It was ok, and better than the eighth re-hash of original Star Wars, but was disappointed at the whole train heist/failure/angry crime boss plot line lifted from Firefly (down to the sharp-shooting black chick; they even dressed Thandie Newton like Gina Torres).

RE: OT: Star Wars Thread [Warning: Spoilers]
Finally went to see Solo. It was much better then I was expecting. There were very few in the theater, so anyone on the fence should go see it before it is gone. The guys playing Solo and Calrissian don't really pass for a younger Ford or Williams, but who could? Once you accept those actors as the characters, the movie is quite enjoyable. My one critique would be that I didn't like the story line with Lando's droid. I thought it was stupid and mucked up the flow of the story. And I also didn't like the twist with the marauders.

Of the three Disney Star Wars films, I'd rank it right there with Rogue One, and ahead of Force Awakens. Ron Howard did a good job.

Okay, so I'm not the only one who noticed that. Which I found funny, because Firefly was once described to me as 'it's like a Han Solo TV show'...

RE: OT: Star Wars Thread [Warning: Spoilers]
I'm curious as to why they went with a Memorial day release, just 5 months after Last Jedi, when Episode 9 is slated for December 2019... Holding it for a December 2018 release seems to me like it would have been wise, as they opened Star Wars movies in December of 2016 (Force Awakens), 2017 (Rogue One), and 2018 (Last Jedi). Just seemed odd.

Not like there was a stacked lineup of competitors for December either. Doubt they would have been scared off by Aquaman or Bumblebee.

Solo and overall performance of the latest movies seems to be putting a major stall in their gameplan.

Personally, I didn't think Solo was that bad but....

RE: OT: Star Wars Thread [Warning: Spoilers]
Quote:Solo: A Star Wars Story
Maybe it was a mistake to release Solo so soon after The Last Jedi, or maybe it was simply bad marketing (and, no, it wasn’t the “Soylo” Boycott), but Han Solo deserved better than the box office he received. A fun, light adventure featuring everyone’s favorite Wookie and his human, Solo dove deep into Star Wars lore and nostalgia, crafting the best version of Han Solo’s origins. (And we can say that with some authority, since we’ve read all the Legends novels.) Where Rogue One favored fan service and plot over consistent characters, Solo let its charismatic characters carry audiences along a pulpy adventure. There’s a good chance we won’t get a sequel, but we certainly wouldn’t mind a Lando film starring Donald Glover. — Adam Lance Garcia

Overall I agree. The film was decent. Not perfect, but waaaay better than TLJ. I'd still like to see what happens in a Solo sequel which was setup at the end of the film.

RE: OT: Star Wars Thread [Warning: Spoilers]
looks like mid-September will be when fans can get their home copies of Solo movie. I still have not bought VIII:TLJ, and don't know if I will as I'm not sure I want to watch it again. But I will be looking forward to getting a copy of Solo and re-watching it multiple times. I thought Woody Harrelson did a good job and overall I liked the movie and the direction. I would have liked a different explanation of his name origin, and the robot rebellion was kind of unnecessarily overdone, but I did understand the explanation of where the falcon got its super Nav computer and it made sense.

RE: OT: Star Wars Thread [Warning: Spoilers]
Lando's Back:

Star Wars Episode IX: Billy Dee Williams to Return as Lando Calrissian

This is kinda obvious, as both Luke and Leia are effectively gone and they really need someone from the past to help the story that was, in my opinion, taken way too far off track in VIII:TLJ. Hopefully JJ Abrams can figure out how to make it work and put things somewhat back together for Episode IX. I'll even grant him a few lens-flares if he can fix this thing.

I thought it was a solid palate cleanser after TLJ. I loved the Maul tease but am sad that we probably won't see anything more out of him. Maybe in Ep 9?

Maul was finally killed by Obi Wan on Tatooine during this last year's season of Rebels - which obviously predates Ep 9 by 30+ years.

We could see him; however, if there is a sequel to Solo.

Thanks for posting. I'll be buying Solo when it comes out. I will never buy TLJ. It is the Godfather III of the Star Wars franchise.
