Do you realize how many campuses allow CC? Several states don't allow banning it? I think LU started promoting it for those over 21 years old after the VATECH incident.

I don't have a problem with Jerry/Liberty promoting conceal and carry but tagged along under the banner of "kill any Muslims (I mean terrorists) who come onto campus" was unwise. He could have said something along the lines of, "Hey everyone, we've had another national tragedy that involved gun violence. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the friends and families affected by such malicious behavior. I'd like to take a moment to remind everyone here that we provide the privilege to have a conceal and carry license for those responsible enough to handle a firearm and also provide courses to help earn such a license. Together we can keep our campus and loved ones safe." Instead, he came across as arrogant and almost challenging instead of humble.

True. The message was accurate. The delivery was lacking. I will give you that. I saw past the words to the principle. Many folks can't do that. Hence the politically correct/ participation trophy society we live in.

By the way, there was a great article written by a Liberty student about why she didn't applaud the remarks.

The liberal, "tolerant" presidents will never let Liberty in, until the school becomes just like them.

RE: Idiotic statement by Falwell Jr. dooms Liberty to FCS forever
In the wild, crazy state of our country today, and the reality of the political climate, is there anyone that believes JFJr's position to make a statement, reported in the Richmond Times Dispatch, http://www.richmond.com/news/virginia/ar...4a1f.html, that he continues to endorse Trump and that someone in the GOP leaked the tape? How does this help LU? I'm at a loss to see the benefit.

I can't read the link. It says "element not valid" or something like that. Without knowing what he said, Jerry should just shut up about Trump and be a silent supporter. At least he is loyal! That's got to count for something, right?

RE: Idiotic statement by Falwell Jr. dooms Liberty to FCS forever
The reason for my post Tuesday was that I received my umteenth email invite yesterday to renew my Flames Club membership. It was in December when I decided I had to make changes in my affiliation with LU. I could not identify with the school as I had in the past due to actions, statements and endorsements by school leaders. After several days of contemplation I resigned as a Mod. I just could not, in clear conscious, be labeled as a supporter of an organization with views and positions espoused by JFJr.

JFJr's recent acceptance and re-endorsement of Trump after his "locker room video" was the last straw for me. I'm not advocating JR. endorse HRC or any other candidate, but the mere fact he again supported Trump was to much.

If JFJr had just remained out of the fray and not overtly supported Trump, or any candidate, I likely would have remained an active supporter.

Yesterday I sent a copy of my December post, 'Idiotic statement by Falwell Jr dooms Liberty to FCS" along with an email reply declining to renewing my Flames Club membership. As a staunch supporter of the school in the past, I answered with sincerity and passion. It was a tough, direct comment stating my views that the actions of JFJr are detrimental to school seeking FBS and a mistake. I'm sure I am not the most popular Flames fan now, but at least I have a clear conscious.

You have to do what you have to do. If you feel like you need to stand up for something, go ahead. It would be hypocritical to say that it's okay for Liberty to stand up for what they believe in without saying the same to you.

Here's the deal though, NT you have a passion for Liberty sports and really want to see Liberty take the next step. Jr obviously wants to go to an FBS conference but it's not the most important thing to allot of the people at Liberty. Ever comment and every decision isn't filtered to see if others schools would approve or like us more. I'm not a Trump guy, I see him as a pig of all pigs, but Jr has decided to hitch his cart to him for some reason and I don't see that changing.

BYU is more religiously strict than Liberty. C-USA would give its left nut for BYU to become a member of CUSA.

Why?

BYU has a strict political neutrality policy. It does not allow its administrators to participate in political campaigns.

Whatever BYUs moral stands are it will not embarass any conference that has it as a member.

Yep, that's the reason alright. They are politically neutral. That's why conferences want BYU.

Ok BYU plays great football but do you think conferences would want BYU if they were making the sort of statements JFjr was making?

Conferences avoid political controversy like the plague especially if they can get similar schools without the controversy.

*shakes head*

Why does he feel the need to get this deeply involved in the campaign?

It's known as a conscious. I do respect the 200+ LU students who have publicly stated their non support of JFJr supporting Trump and haveing JFJr represent the school in his global media attention, on LU and not just himself, as the students so ably stated in the PR release. I respect the 200+ students, not JFjr.

Relevant in it re-states and attempts to justify his actions. Kudos to the 200+, that I bet grows bigger. I like they have voiced their disapproving views. I did a quick Google search and the 200+ student signed release has gained world wide attention with hundreds of media picking up the story. It represents a diversity within the school that a dissenting group can express their view, in a very well stated response, in disagreement with the school president. It's one of the better actions to occur in a long time at LU. it took a lot of courage to take this stand and gives credibility to the school. And the 200+ students are being held in higher regard by many with their position than JFJr and his.

I think with the election campaign being almost over, and another month of football season. Maybe JFjr can shave his beard and look like a new man for a while.

15,000 students on campus, 200 signing a petition. Less than 2%. Let's not make this bigger than it is. Falwell likes Trump, myself and several other Liberty students don't. What's the big deal?
