RE: That Team 2.5 Miles Away
My only significant concern about Ellis isn't what directly happens on the court, I think he's prepared for that. The much mentioned student body taunting where Ellis doesn't have a constructive way to get back at them is what concerns me. If that builds up, then any little trigger may cause a tech.

Two ways to address it... Ellis and the 'Cats have an impressive game from the start. Don't give the fans over there room to get on a roll or get into the game. And my ace in the hole is to assign DeBerry to be Ellis' shadow on any issue... if CD even thinks Ellis is starting to get the most basic attitude, have CD go and bear hug Ellis and walk him over to Mick to deal with. The second one is mostly a joke... hopefully Ellis realizes that anything at all that he does negatively impacts his potential draft status and will impact his wallet after this year.

Hopefully the 'Cats start and finish strong so it's a non-issue.

Yes - UC needs to be able to do that to try to keep the crowd out of the game.

On the other hand, if Eggzavier is losing it will only encourage their fans to do something stupid.

The best scenario would be for UC to win the game while keeping their heads, and Egzzavier fans embarrassing themselves on national tv.

Yes.

Xavier has him targeted and will be on him all game. He's a liability.

I'm not trying to play coach here, but I'd have him on a very short leash or perhaps even sit him for the game. We simply cannot afford him to get T'ed up multiple times or worse. I'd treat Ellis much like I would any player who has a sprained ankle: "Sorry son, but having you out there in a compromised position hurts the team..."

And if he doesn't like it, I say "Too bad, because you earned your reputation... And it's too late now to fix it for Saturday, but learn and fix it going forward."

He is not and will not be a liability tomorrow. He's a big time player for UC who continues to get a bad rap for a couple technical fouls (the one against Butler being completely absurd). If Mick Cronin treated him like that he'd be sacrificing our ability to win the game. He's our best defensive big, one of our best rebounders and a solid inside scorer. His "blowups" are so overstated.

No they are not.

I agree sitting him would be absurd but his blowups are not overstated. Dude is a ticking time bomb.

I watch every UC game.. go to 95% if the home games and can't think of any specifically. I know there have been a couple... but can't even put my finger on those. It's way overblown because of what happened his first time in program.

Me too dude. Agree to disagree...and I honestly don't think his first stint with the program factors into my feeling towards him. Just me watching his demeanor on the court since he's been back.

I don't think he's capable of acting like he's above all the 'extracurricular' activity that happens on the court. I wish he would just laugh it off, and focus that aggression into playing the game instead of getting chippy and being a punk.

He was ejected from two games last year for flagrant fouls. Was kicked off the team once already. And has already gotten a technical this year.

If you're not nervous about Ellis in the Cintas, then you have nerves of steel. More power to you.

I like the guy. Wouldn't have kicked him off or anything like that - and I wouldn't sit him this game. But to act like he's been the victim of several coincidences isn't fair.

Its the little things with Ellis, like in the last game, he gets fouled dunking, hangs on the rim, which is fine, but swings his leg completely out of the way to try and kick the player below him. He missed, but if you were really watching it was completely on purpose, the way he stared at the guy. It is things like that they make me think he can't control himself at times.

The coach from that team up the road has family members that root for UC? At least they have their heads on straight!

I'm tired of his BS. I defended him for a long time but he's indefensible. That BS where he grabbed the rebound and then swung his elbows and knocked that guy down was just totally uncalled for. We had the ball...XU missed. All he had to do was pass the ball and we are down court. Instead he fouls and XU gets the ball back. TOTALLY unacceptable.

If the kid was 20pt and 15 reb/game, then I'd 'accept it' but he's half that. The juice isn't worth the squeeze. Ellis is a clown.

Honesty, I think it is embarrassing Cronin continues to put up with it. It is becoming a nightly occurence, and only a matter of time before it totally blows up in our face on a national stage.

agree Jarr

exhibit A: last year in ncaa vs Purdue. Anybody who watched that replay and said anything other than he was intentionally going for that Purdue kids throat with his forearm is either blind or a liar. It angered me when I heard our coaches defend him in that instance...he CLEARLY was going for that kid with bad intentions (maybe he wasn't trying to hit his throat...maybe he was trying to hit his chest or face, I don't know). He gets booted and it looked terrible on tv. Ellis needs to go.
