Scout.com recruiting analyst John Garcia Jr. has seen both Pigrome and Johnston play several times. He said one word comes to mind when he thinks about Johnston.
“Resilient. I wondered how he'd respond to the ACL injury that shortened his junior season, and he appears better than ever,” Garcia said. “Sometimes major injuries allow the athlete to refocus on everything, not just the knee in this case, and apparently Johnston has taken full advantage. The kid is a gamer and grinder with great footwork and good enough arm strength and accuracy to make any defense cringe. Most impressively, he's done it with three very different groups of wide receivers throughout this great run at Spanish Fort.”

One coach who has had to defend both the past two years is Jeff Kelly. His team lost a 36-31 battle to Clay-Chalkville in the title game last year. The Spartans also lost to Spanish Fort earlier this season.
“Both are great players. Both are leaders on their teams,” Kelly said. “Pigrome obviously can go 80 on anyplay. He can make all the throws and has all those talented guys around him. Tyler I don’t think gets enough credit for the type of passer he is. He is one of the most accurate guys I’ve seen in high school.
“He is a winner. He is physical enough to get a first down with his feet when he needs to. He has the confidence to make the play in the big game, and his teammates feed off that. He plays with tremendous poise and intensity. These are two of the better quarterbacks in this senior class.”
