This season was a complete waste.
Not everyday we have a chance at NYE bowl game or a undefeated season.
+1
Nothing quite as sad and disappointing as unrealized potential.
Actually this is what is sad.....this team is 9-2 and deserves our full support; stop fretting over what could have been
And might I suggest spending some time with Iowa State fans for a dose of reality....we've got it MUCH better than 95% of the programs out there.
We come at this from two entirely different perspectives and I see nothing at all about that as being "sad"----its called being tolerant of a diverse spectrum of opinions. Whereas I am quite willing acknowledge many different views may have some merit, I don't believe you are ready to concede that.
You look at the 9-2 record as being a very good record, which it is, and seem perfectly happy with that season which in a sense is your good fortune. I look this particular 9-2 season as being two very WINNABLE games away from being a perfect season----i.e, perfection, the absolute pinnacle of success----specifically, we are talking about competing for a MACC championship for the first time in 11 years and one additional game (also the MACC game) away from being recognized as the very top team from the among the entire 55-60 G5 schools this year as well as being in the national spotlight that comes with playing a top P5 team in a major New Years Bowl for a very, very generous payday-----the point is that these two games were WINNABLE (UT was favored in both) hence this season also represents a lost opportunity that does not often present itself and there is no telling when (or even if) such an opportunity will ever come along again.
If you want to go over and commiserate with ISU fans go right ahead but I have no desire to do so. I try to avoid trying to make myself feel better by comparisons with those who are less fortunate---somehow it seems wrong.
Finally, I assume that you throw out that 95% as pure hyperbole because no serious person could really think any G5 program is in the top 5% of college football teams------I evaluate Toledo against what I believe their potential is, not against the top 5% of college football programs------I am even willing to try to I.D. the schools in the top 5%. I will leave that to the Wall Mart Wolverine crowd** and their like minded colleagues who are likewise fans of other highly successful sports programs to identify who those schools are.
** those fans whose personal self image is invested in the success of a collegiate sports team from a university which they have absolutely no connection with and in fact may have never set foot on the campus much less attended classes there.
