SBC Freshman of the Year Nominations
We were doing an unofficial Freshman of the Week award all through last year, since the Conference doesn't have one. Not sure if they do one for the year as a whole either, but I thought it could be a nice discussion topic since we have COY and OPOY threads going already.

GS Noms

Wesley Fields-True FR running back
11 games
88 Att
604 Yds (6.9 per carry)
6 TDs
3 rec, 88 yds, 1 TD

Logan Hunt-True FR DE
11 games
20 Tckls
1 FF

While I think Fields is the best player, it's likely headed to Penny Hart

RE: SBC Freshman of the Year Nominations
For USA, I think DB Jalen Thompson would be our best Freshman (IMO).

24 Tot Tackles, 2 TFL, 1 Sack, 1 int, 1 blkd kick, 1 forced fumble, and 5 pass breakups.

Throw in Bull Barge just becuase of his name, but he doesn't play often enough. (31 tackles). I just really like his name for a linebacker.

I think Penny Hart will likely get it though, and deservingly so.

Amazing what it says about the expectations for our team this year that we have legit contenders for all of these awards discussed, and we're currently 5-6 and heading into our final regular-season game as dogs by more than three touchdowns.

Warren Wand is probably A-State's best Freshman, with due respect to nickleback Justin Clifton.

Wand's numbers are similar to Fields' plus 13 catches for 115 yards.

6.2 ypc, 3 TDs, 608 yards rushing.

Plus - he's 5'5" and he'll knock you on your unsuspecting ass like this poor USC Trojan.

Gotta' put LT Jeremiah Culbreath in there too, he has been quite impressive as a true freshman and probably has made a bigger impact than either Fields or Hunt.

RE: SBC Freshman of the Year Nominations
I know that he has not played quite as much , but how about Jalin Moore at App. He has 72 carries for 551 yards (7.7 ypc) and has only played in 8 games.

Very good point, I was just going down the stat sheet and he didn't jump out (as OL mostly won't with traditional stats) hard to quantify their contribution compared to other positions, but without a doubt OL plays a huge role, especially in an Offense like ours.
