There are probably enough Auburn fans within a 30 mile radius of the stadium to fill it and they are among the most loyal and rabid fans in all of college football. They DO not like the fact that we own a 2-0 record against them and will fight like hell to avenge it. Our team will have to play as well as they did against Ole Miss in order to win. I like the fact that our defense has steadily improved (not counting Navy which was a special case). It would be very nice to be able to point to back-to-back 10-win seasons. BE THERE & BE LOUD!!! I am very happy with this news - had my hotel booked for a month now.

Are you staying the night before, the night after, or both?

The stadium is a little over an hour from my house but I will still likely be staying the night. I might even bring an Auburn fan friend along. He'll be the one with the "kick me" sign on his back.03-shhhh

Auburn's reaction on Twitter is very apathetic towards bowl and Tigers. Like Who?

Like who my @ss. They need to be reminded who has a 2-0 record against them.

The hotels between Homewood and Mountain Brook would probably work well. I'm staying at inlaws abut 20 miles to the south on 65. I would say that I do not recommend that to anyone. (Not the inlaws, but the part about having to go north on I65. ) I'm not sure how long it will take to get to the game, but thoughts and prayers are requested.

For you youngsters: In 1970s-90s we beat Auburn twice in a row, Arky 3 times in a row, Alabama, Mississippi multiple times, Miss St. multiple times, Vandy at least once, Vols. I'm working from memory as I was at most of those games.

This was before TV money destroyed level playing field.

Homewood/Mountain Brook area would be my choice. Do not even think of staying near Legion Field; BAD area.

I would second this. The Hampton Inn off of Lakeshore Drive would probably be a good place. I used to live about .2 miles from that as the crow flies. Right beside the interstate.

If you like coffee check out O'Henrys or Octane, both have different styles. I haven't found a place in Memphis that replicates either in terms of quality and style.

Pardon the interruption from a Blazer fan, but downtown has made a lot of progress in recent years. I'd recommend staying at the Westin or Sheraton by the BJCC. There's a new entertainment district called Uptown right next door for dinner/drinks.

How is that Octane location doing? The Homewood location served a Left Hand Milk Stout Nitro that I have literally never seen anywhere else which came down like manna from heaven and fixed itself into my taste forever.

RE: GOING BOWLING IN BIRMINGHAM!!!!
Avoid the Legion Field area (like there is anywhere decent to stay nearby anyhow). There are good hotels downtown, uptown, and around the Lakeshore/I-65 exit. There are a number of respectable brew pubs. I'd point you at Avondale Brewery. Stop at Saw's Soul Food a couple of doors down. The brewery does not serve food and does not mind if you bring it in. Saw's does good BBQ, or get a bowl of Pork 'n Greens (over grits). Red Cat Coffeehouse is a few blocks away, and there are two other good coffeehouses within a block of the brewery.

The 'ham is in the midst of something of a downtown renaissance. Lots of good things going on down there. Try Collins Bar on 2nd Ave N. for artisan cocktails. Iron City downtown is very good. In general, Avondale, Lakeview, and the Five Points South area will give you a ton of options for food and drink.

Both locations are good. Octane has a cool thing going.

I second that opinion on The Collins Bar. Fantastic place. Probably my favorite bar in Bham, besides Blue Monkey.

Where to stay would probably depend on your age and who you're going with. If you're going with wife and kids, probably Homewood/Hoover/Mountain Brook. If you're a younger person going with some buddies, I'd recommend staying in Five Points/Southside, since there are quite a few restaurants and bars within walking distance of the hotels.

It was the place to be the last time I was there. Octane sniped a lot of the top baristas at O'Henry's and took most of their younger loyal customers when it first opened. I felt bad at first but how can you compare? Octane was literally roasting their beans and bringing them the next room over for consumption.
