RE: No Secret: US Special Ops have been fighting ISIS for months.
My point behind the Original Post was in response to the post Paris Political Paranoia that the "US isn't doing anything about ISIS"
We have been doing something on the ground but it's been kept quiet. You get a occasional Commando Raid that hits the Press.
If someone wants to shake things up try surrounding Raqqa, which is full of Foreign Fighters. That would take an air assault brigade and about 8000 Troops.

Well, that's one way to spin it.
People think Tom is one dimensional but in addition to being the chief leftist water toter he is also quite adapt at spinning things. In fact to recognize his dual abilities we should start calling him Hurricane Tom.

Serious question guys...why can't you just debate topics without creating motives to call into question and worrying about every personal position I have?
To me, it kind of means you're either incapable of debate or you don't have an argument.

It's more like "black water" because the water he totes is full of ****.
RE: No Secret: US Special Ops have been fighting ISIS for months.
Serious question Tom.....did Obama say there would be no boots on the ground in this fight or not?
Can you provide a link to prove your *except special forces theory? In any of the sixteen unprompted times Obama said "no boots on the ground" did he ever say anything about special forces?

This is an instance where obfuscation by this or any other POTUS is appropriate. Special Forces fall outside of the category of standard combatants and are actually closer to spies or other covert operations. I nor the public should expect full disclosure on their activities as it would undermine these units effectiveness.

I'll let Obama speak for himself on the matter:
Quote:President Barack Obama said on Monday the planned deployment of dozens of U.S. special forces to Syria to advise opposition forces fighting Islamic State did not break his promise not to put "boots on the ground" in the Syrian conflict.
"Keep in mind that we have run special ops already and really this is just an extension of what we are continuing to do," Obama said in an interview on "NBC Nightly News" in his first public comments on the deployment since it was announced on Friday.
"We are not putting U.S. troops on the front lines fighting firefights with ISIL," Obama said, using another acronym for the Islamic State militant group. "I have been consistent throughout that we are not going to be fighting like we did in Iraq with battalions and occupations. That doesn't solve the problem."
But with that being said, things change. Of course something like the Paris attack can certainly change things and require us to increase the number of boots on the ground. That doesn't change the fact that our current desire is, and should be in my opinion, that we don't commit to a full ground assault on the front lines to fight ISIS.

Quote:The first American soldier to die in combat against ISIS in Iraq was identified Friday as a member of the elite Delta Force who took part in a raid to free Iraqi prisoners.
Master Sgt. Joshua L. Wheeler, 39, of Roland, Oklahoma, was among dozens of US special-ops troops and Kurdish forces who raided a makeshift prison Thursday near the city of Kirkuk, freeing 69 captives.
RE: No Secret: US Special Ops have been fighting ISIS for months.
It looks like the Special Ops Task Force announced yesterday won't be based in Iraq. Iraq objects to this deployment. Look for the US force to be located in Jordan.
