RE: App @ South Alabama
A moot point about what the USA OC said of our defense in relation to others, because the unit we put on the field yesterday was significantly better than the edition we rolled out in Boone. Just having Dobson back makes us so much better in the secondary it isn't even close.

Prior to yesterday, it was September 26th the last time we had all our preseason-tabbed starters together on the field for an entire game (due to injuries & targeting suspensions). It makes a difference, although clearly App State has a MUCH more dynamic offense than USA does.

I would have liked though to see this defensive unit with the services of Jonathan Battle, who had to give it up due to career injuries. I think his presence anchoring the defensive line last year was a big factor in the game vs. App, and would have at a minimum been able to spell Sapp and Ellison. Would have been a help vs. UGA at least.

Unless our defense held App to 10 points or less it wouldnt have mattered much. Our passing woes mid season were comical.

Agreed. Still not so hot, but it "looked" better yesterday even if it wasn't statistically better than our season long average.

A 10 win season will do a lot for recruiting. Satterfield said as much post game yesterday. I think they'll be plenty motivated.

App enters the game playing good defense and above average offense, yet not as sharp as earlier in the season due to a couple of injuries.

USA stumbles into the game and struggled versus GS's defense last week.

We may see a similar story with USA's offense this week versus IMO a slightly better defense (stats would agree), but I don't see App scoring nearly as many as GS.

Defensive stats between GS and App St are closer than you might think. In total defense App St. is #12 nationally and GS is #13. App St. is a little better in points per game and GS is #2 nationally in kickoff return defense and #5 in punt return defense. Both defenses are pretty stout.

Our OC made a comment before the game yesterday that GS has by far the best defense in the conference.

Well I mean, he's just wrong. Especially with the "by far" qualifier.
Ya'll (App &GS) are making way too much about coach speak before the game. Did you expect him to say that GS has the second best defense before playing the game?

I got dibs on the pass, I may be interested in the tickets too. Still waiting on word from a few football fans at work.

Give the parking pass to Man on a Buffalo so he can get inside the gates.

Man on a Buffalo, I'd stick to Dauphin Street all day then head to the stadium about 45 minutes before kick (use Uber stadium is about ten minutes from downtown but wouldn't walk it). I'll see if I can find you a VIP tent pass so you can hang out with some Jag fans and drink free beer. It will be better than hanging out in an empty parking lot. There's nothing around the stadium and with the season we're having, tailgating won't be much fun.

Stay at one of the downtown hotels if you aren't already and there are tons of bars and restaurants on Dauphin Street. Colt Ford is playing Midnight Rodeo Thursday night and Drivin N Cryin is playing Soul Kitchen Friday night and both should have a fun crowd.

Shoot me a PM if you have any specific questions about your trip. Thanks for coming

I've ran wild on the Dauphin strip a few times already. That was the same trip I was introduced to the ladies of Spring Hill. I also ran across the British volleyball star from USA of SBC commercial fame.

I may sleep in the truck, as I'm off to New Orleans in the morning to watch my Panthers play on Sunday afternoon.

A VIP tent pass sounds interesting, let me know if you can squeeze myself and one to two friends in. We get along with most anyone when whiskey and beer are present.

I think after what Joey Jones cobbled together this year, the talk of him being on the hot seat is crazy to me. I'm shocked that you won 5 games.

After what we did to the Georgia Southern offense in Boone this year, I'm sure Fritz and his OC would disagree with the USA OC about who had the best defense in the SBC

Only because we can't go against our own defense 05-stirthepot

You serious?

Get a room at the Quality Inn downtown for $65/night. It's walking distance to all the bars and restaurants. Get two friends to join you and you're paying about $25.

And you haven't played App yet....who was one minute away from a third shutout in one season.

What is puzzling to me is how USA goes from beating San Diego (meaning a whales ******) State, and then stumbles as many times as they have the rest of the season. It's really a shame because beating them and doing well in conference, as well as a bowl would help out conference perception when discussions come up about next season.

We're trying to figure out how that happened too. We are good enough at times to beat anyone in this conference and were bad enough at times to lose to anyone in this conference.

You played well enough against State to win then have a complete meltdown. App did that as well, as have a few other teams which brings me to the conclusion that they aren't meltdowns so much as Arkansas State finally getting their **** together.

I've been puzzled though. I was pulling for USA earlier in the year to come into conference and play lights out but it seems that the focus isn't there to be successful week after week.

Yeah, they certainly deserve credit, but a meltdown like that doesn't happen often. We led by 11 with 6 minutes to go then lost by 18, they definately had some help from us.

We just don't have depth this year. Losing 40 seniors over the past couple years including most of our 2 deep last year is not an overnight fix, and is tougher than I thought it would be to overcome. I fully admit I thought the UAB guys would help more than they did, but we just had too much to overcome. Losing some key players to season ending injuries early in the season didn't help that problem either. .
