I was reading this board and LaTechbbb and it seems like there's a lot of hate for Monken. Why is that?

I don't think tech fans give two craps about brohm. We have history with Monken. He's a former tech assistant. He applied for Tech's HC job three times. I want to say he got mad the job wasn't handed to him last time and withdrew his name. But I don't know why Tech fans would necessarily "hate monken"

I dont, Monken interviewed when dykes was hired so he probably felt good whooping our butts. He was at Tech for a couple years under Crowton.

He has turned USM around and loading up on Juco's so he wanted to win asap. Thats the one thing I really like about Hotlz recruiting hs kids and not loading up jucos like Dykes did and split town once a winning season happens

I went over and read the Tech board. It is almost comical at how Tech posters say yea, he whipped us, but he did it with Juco's. Personally I was concerned about the number of Juco's he signed, but hell I am smart enough to see he was absolutely right on 90% of the Juco's he signed. Also, Mullens, Ito Smith and Jalen Richard weren't Juco's and I believe they were rather important to our win yesterday.

I read some and picked up on the "but he did it with juco's" as well. They either are really concerned about us or they hate jucos.

It's a dirty word at Tech. Dykes signed double-digit JUCOs every year and had a nice 2011-2012 run then left us and most of those JUCOs graduated leaving us with....not much. Then last year we had 5 starters academically ineligible for the conference championship game and bowl game...all 5 former JUCOs. We haven't signed any JUCOs in two years and we don't have any committed this year. I like that Holtz is recruiting for the long-term. I think we need about 2 more high school classes to get where we need to be.

how 'bout that?....I've always been a proponent.....

it's our future.....best move is to start early and often....

a 50/50 mix is what I would love to see moving forward.....

once the juco studs/schools see post HS potential???......well, do I really need to say anymore?

some folks just need to get their head out of their arse and look at thingys objectively......education and body styles have changed in the last decade.....

what Monken has done is identical to Tyndall (sorry, but that's the reality of it).....it works.....and it will have to moving forward if southern miss fans want to see a 'jump' op happen moving forward.....

I read the La Tech board as well and it almost seemed like many La Tech fans were saying we won was because of all the JuCo players. When we had so many holes to plug (no pun intended) we/Monken had to do something to avoid another dismal season. With the way this season has played out I think it was a good decision and should help recruit better talent to fill the cupboard in the near future.

Never mind that the majority of those juco's are backing up kids who have been here but stepped up and improved.

which is why we need both as a compliment....

It seems to be a good strategy, at least in the short term. Wku has done the same thing to an extent.

Some of these so called Juco's are transfers from p5 programs. That will be more of the norm for g5 programs in the furtue. Ya know just the the real deal (?)
