The bubble
The practice bubble has collapsed. Wonder how much it is going to cost to fix.

RE: The bubble
Andrew (Eastern Echo) has been Tweeting on this matter. It was being utilized with it collapsed.

If '79 can find a 'recruiting angle' to anything, this will be a recruiting minus. Visits should begin next weekend and who knows if it will be fixed by then.

A collapsed IPF is a negative. Not something a recruit would want to see.

RE: The bubble
Dear Friends,
I really doubt that an indoor practice facility is the final barometer for any recruit in making a choice of schools. In overall facilities maybe, but I still think it is the relationship with coaches, and maybe some of the current players, where a recruit makes his decision.
Winning records will also be more important then facilities. So let's not worry so much about when the "bubble" is re-inflated.

True, but who wants to see their IPF deflated and out of commission?

It is one of the first things I'd guess new recruits see on their visit.

I agree with Super is that the big thing is how much will it cost to repair? Where will the money come? Etc.

How soon will it be repaired. The good news, if there is any, is that football season is over and its usage for football will decline significantly for this month.

The real question is who pays for the repairs? Insurance? Warranty?

The weather has been OK lately. Are we sure it was not purposefully deflated for maintenance reasons?

Didn't we have this problem a couple years ago as well? It's only 3/4 years old. I'd imagine we're gonna get serious help from the manufacture for this. Doesn't look good to have their product deflated on the ground.

It split. If the bubble was being maintained properly I would think that the company that built it should be responsible for the repairs.

EMU is self insured. 07-coffee3 most colleges and universities are.

Maybe we can't afford to maintain it properly? Maybe the guy who bought the Silverdome also bought our IPF?

I wonder how the recruits are approaching it?

I wonder if the football staff is talking improvements to the football facilities with recruits who visited this weekend?

They were talking a permanent indoor, and improvements last year.

Thank you!!!

Very good article.

Lot of interesting things, including questions about possible damage to the lighting, field turf, etc. etc. which could have occurred.

I believe Super was wrong on his EMU is 'self-insured' comments related to the bubble.

There appears to be insurance with a 50K deductible. If true, 50K is a small dollar amount for an enterprise which has a budget in the hundreds of millions of dollars, although I assume the 'bubble' is it own 'cost center' with revenues and expenses it incurs.

As I look at the sad photos of the deflated bubble. It occurs to me that that will definitely hurt recruiting. How could it not? Secondly, it also shocks me to see the poor condition of the concrete surrounding the athletic facilities. EMU can't afford to repave the roads around the stadium and facilities? What an eyesore! It can't be that expensive to have a decent stretch of road by the facilities. Good lord it looks cheap and low class...Be better than that EMU, for f***'s sake!

Bob:

Things will get a lot better in the future.

As was posted here, Dep. AD Chris Spears was talking with Chad Bush and basically went public with plans for improved athletic facilities.

As far as specific problems and issues, I'm sure the 'big package' will include a lot of 'smaller items', such as concrete work, landscaping, ADA, etc. and those other things we've discussed like the inadequate lighting, horrendous scoreboard, relic press box, etc.

Lot of other things need work like concessions, etc.

It is like remodeling a house, if someone is going to take out a big 2nd mtge, don't forget the smaller things like landscaping, new carpeting, etc. etc.

It would be foolish to do 75% of a job and not finish the whole thing.
