There's a good thought and with the chance we just also lost our o-line coach, Harding would be a good evaluator for that position. A young guy with connections around the country.

Still want them to interview Chud. Offense off the charts and HC experience! If only to say they were able to get him in for the interview.

Oh, I kinda like the Harding idea as an option to consider! But I'm worried that we can't pay what P5 Coordinators are already getting?

How about Bruce. I think his days are numbered in Pittsburgh and after spending so many years on the sideline with a head set on in Pittsburgh he knows how a game is ran.

Hey...this is getting kind of exciting! Obviously this is "pie in the sky" at the moment, but the potential is there! I think it would do UT and the MAC well to have some folks who do indicate that they are interested actually be interviewed...

If Campbell is to succeed at ISU, recruiting will be critical; so I think he takes Candle with him.

@NickPiotrowicz: The Toledo players, overwhelmingly, want offensive coordinator Jason Candle to be their new coach.

Don't tell me we can't attract someone with just as much or better credentials than anyone on the staff right now. This is a very intriguing job for an aspiring head coach. We have history, we have a solid fan base, and we have national recognition. This has to be a good job to aspiring coaches...

For the love of God...

I would trust MOB 100 times out of 100 when it comes to picking a new HC. I would trust this board 0 times out of 100.

That should not matter - or not matter as much. You need to know the reasons why that is the case first and even if it means hurting their feelings, they should be blaming it on Campbell.

An offer will need to be made quickly if it is going to be Candle or I think he goes with Campbell. He will not be the OC next year under just about any scenario I can see.

I'd be willing to bet that they hire Candle. It seems to be the trend in these scenarios. Toledo would keep its recruits. Hopefully they can find someone who knows what they are doing on offense.

Not surprising at all. Same thing with Campbell when Beckman left. One certainly understands that they would prefer the "known" over the "unknown". My guess is Candle, if he's interested in staying here, will be the only guy we can actually afford in the end, and he'll get the job. Hopefully it's a short-term contract that doesn't commit ourselves too long in the event it goes sour. Let him win a Division title and go to a MACC game within the next 2 seasons before you give him more money and extensions; if not, and we stay in 3rd place in the MAC West, well then he got his shot and time to move on.

As long as the coach isn't a liar or cheater, I really don't care who is if he wins a MAC championship. I personally don't think Candle is the guy, but I'm a Rocket. I still say, though, that he should have to compete for this job. Let him go to Iowa State in the interim so that he knows he has a job, but make him earn this very good opportunity.

Not exactly comparing it to a high level of credentials for making that comparison. I would hire Les Miles. Let's see MOB top that...

I'm still confused as to why all the love for MOB in hiring coaches. I haven't been impressed. I'm sure Cross has a lot to do with that.

If Chud was going anywhere on the college level it would be "The U".

No liars or cheats. Uphold the academic and behavior standards the program has been achieving.

I think Candle is incompetent.

As far as O'Brien, he has recently hired two football and basketball coaches who can't win a MAC title, and coaches who have destroyed the women's swimming and x country programs. He doesn't walk on water.

Agreed, although player support does go on his plus side for consideration. We will lose a few players in any transition but hopefully the next coach comes with a few of his own recruits.

Candle's been here, more of a known quantity. The structure is place. Just like when Pinkel left. You don't need to reinvent the wheel as a new HC coming in. No matter who takes over the team should be good. In 3-5 years UT will probably looking for a new HC anyways. Just try to improve upon the team's short comings from this season. If this was a complete rebuild then somebody other than Candle would make more sense.

Two comments:

1) I would rather they hire somebody who is on the way up rather than on the way down

2) Hiring a UT alum is not a bad idea but only so long as he is also the best possible candidate anywhere out there that can be hired .

I don't think this team is a complete gut job and we're not far away from being really competitive again, so I'm leaning towards the consistency (I can't believe I'm saying this), but leaning towards Candle. I want the recruiting pipelines to remain open, but bring in a new OC.

Definitely a new OC. I still think UT can be better next season. A lot of talent on the roster.
