MyBB Virgina Tech Thread
New day. We have another chance to beat a top 150 RPI team. Here's to hoping we right the ship. Like us, Virginia Tech isn't shooting the 3 well. If we can limit our turn overs and make the shots we should make (and not attempt 20+ 3's) we'll be in a position to win.

I believe we've only played them once. It was an NIT game in Blacksburg. Got spanked.

RE: Virgina Tech Thread
I was down on our team last night, to the point I said the 2014 team could have beaten us last night. I stand by that statement considering this time last year we lost to the #16 Florida Gators by 9 in the Bahamas.

But I believe we have the talent to beat anyone on our schedule going forward. It's going to take getting out of the 3-pt shooting slump and playing looser on O & tighter on D, but we can do it.

The big question is: what does it take for us to get there?

Haase is getting paid the big bucks to figure out the solution.

He has 10 contributing pieces this year. He is still feeling them out. That being said, we can't afford to lose more than 1 more OOC. If we can win today, win 2 on the road, and close out with SFA we'd be in great shape. I'm not going to start freaking out until we get our first bad loss. Auburn and Illinois aren't terrible losses.

Well I'm glad he finally switched something up, the bench was still better. Haase is going to have to ride four guys and two are set in Chris and Robert.

In our first game in the Bahamas, we got absolutely run off the floor and lost by 29

But wasn't that beat down courtesy of almost national champions Wisconsin?

yup. and we looked absolutely abysmal.

my main point is that if you're going to say "at this time last year" you should compare the first game of a neutral tournament to the first game of a neutral tournament

The players don't seem to know their roles offensively outside of Coley and Brown. I see a lot of passing the ball around but no one willing to take shots. This is why I didn't have a probably with Brown shooting so much last night.

Haase needs to figure out the starting lineup soon. It's clear Cokley should be starting. Brown should also continue to start. But we need some shooters to open up the post game. Otherwise, teams are going to pack it in and force UAB to make outside shots. UAB has athletes, we should be taking advantage of fast breaks. But man do we have to stop turning the ball over and in particular Brown.

No VT is not an 150 RPI teamcurrently 260(Nolen). In fact we play ALL cupcakes(150+) the rest of OOC.

We should be playing good mid majors not so sweet of an OOC in our sucking conference In fact we may have to win the conference regular season to make the NIT

Using your logic, the opponent doesn't matter. Your logic is severely flawed.

Sorry. When comparing "at this time"--I thought time was important. My bad for the flawed logic

RE: Virgina Tech Thread
I'll expect them to win this one, but that's not really saying much considering that VT isn't really looking that good either.

A major point of emphasis, as noted above, is the offensive sets. It's college basketball. Sometimes teams just tend to stall and pass the ball around looking for the perfect opportunity that isn't going to magically appear. Our shot selection is actually pretty good, but they just have a hard time actually knocking down the looks. With the way the game is being called lately, it's all about getting in the lane. It probably doesn't even matter if you miss the layup or whatever because you'll get bailed out with a foul.

Can't really do much about player slumps aside from let them play through it, but, offensively, Haase can definitely make some small changes in this short window that'd have a major impact. These are the kinds of games that let you get some insight into the coaching.

ESPN reporting Fuente to VT with Bud Foster and Shane Beamer staying on staff. That should be an interesting power dynamic.

What? It's a VT thread...
