This is not a true statement. I wish y'all would stop trying to tie the life or death of the basketball program to football.

The other option was: No football and only basketball in probably a lateral move league-wise or hoping we get into the MVC. We've gotten screwed with basketball because our football has been terrible and underfunded.
Don't act ridiculous and blame football's existence for basketball being in a bad league.

As the relaity is, some of you value football more than basketball and vice versa. We don't know what the success of UAB Basketball would be without football. But we do know why UAB Basketball is in its current state and that is because of football.

The lack of football success is the reason why UAB is in a bad league. Blame the lack of football success on who ever you want but that is the truth.

So, by all means, re-kill football and let's see how lucky basketball gets.

That's not what I am saying. But let's not act like UAB Basketball has never been successful without football. Bartow didn't start football to save basketball. He started football to keep UAB relevant as a Div I program and stay with like-minded schools. Bartow also expected CUSA to be an upgrade for basketball which it was initially.
But because the way the football program has been operated, it has prevented the whole Athletic Dept from being in a better conference situation.

That was my point. Football drives most top tier athletic conferences. Not having football wouldn't somehow magically elevate UAB basketball to another level because there just aren't really many options out there. In that scenario your best hope is the MVC...maybe? That's not much to go on to kill the most loved sport in this state all for an extra at large bid chance. Maybe it would get into the A10 with a miracle.

RE: I'm so glad we get to stay in CUSA
And also, this league is so bad because the top 6-7 teams aren't near as good as they have been the couple years prior to expansion.
-Southern Miss is a literal dumpster fire
-Charlotte is terrible
-WKU, UAB, and UTEP aren't as good as they should be
UAB's projected OOC RPI is 130 for this season and we're complaining about our league. Our RPI has been straight garbage for the last 3-4 years. UAB's OOC RPI last year was something like 300.
UTSA, UNT, FAU, FIU, Marshall, etc can't be helped, but the other teams aren't pulling their weight either.
edit: UAB, WKU, UTEP, Charlotte should all be top 100 in OOC RPI most years but not a single one of those teams are looking like they will this year.

We'd already be in the AAC if it weren't for the AD being told not to return a phone call, so don't blame the football supporters... you know who to blame.

If we're not in the tournament when the time comes around then we don't have anyone to blame for us coming up short. I just think it's kind of silly to get mad at the conference if we get left out. If we don't make it when we're in what we are saying is a weak conference this year then we don't deserve to be there in the first place.

Some of you might not be aware of this, but Memphis Blazer attended UAB before we had a football team. I can't remember if he has mentioned this here.
