From the euphoria of 8-0....
....and being included in playoff conversations to losing our coach. staring 8-5 in the face, and dealing with yet another down year in badketball.
Wow, how quickly it all fell apart. Reminds me of a stock market crash.

Stock market crash only affects those that sell out. Don't sell out. Let's see what comes from it all.

Not really. He is just relaying a valid emotion. One of which I share. It's called commiseration.

We're no more staring 8-5 in the face than we are 10-3...be as miserable as you like, but that's a fact.

I think we'll win Saturday, but the weather is gonna suck and we'll likely have the smallest crowd of the year. Not to mention the Fuente concern that will likely be looming over the stadium.
It will be a far cry from the olemiss game and the beginning of the Navy game.

Oh, so you're only focused on that one "8-5" aspect. I was commenting on his post as a whole. And on the whole, I'm kinda feeling the same.

I guess I am in the minority. But, following Tiger football for about 40 years, I am tickled pink right now.
10-3 last year. 8-3 right now and a FG three feet further left and we'd be 9-2. Spent most of the year in the Top 25.
I mean, did anyone really expect us to crash the college football playoff with a mostly walk-on wide receiver unit and a totally rebuilt defense?

Yes, I did. Call me unrealistic, but I root for the best outcome until it is an impossibility.

I root for the best, too.
But, the reality is that we still are behind most, talent wise. And, while I love this year's team, it was unreasonable for fans to think we'd go undefeated. I mean, I'm the biggest Sunshine Pumper there is about Memphis football and I thought 10-2 would have been miraculous.
Vegas had us at 8.5 wins for the over/under to start the season. Most of our own fans had us anywhere from 7-10 wins.
Sorry. But, in my book...this has been a very good season and I am quite happy with the result.

I didn't at the beginning of the year but after getting to 8-0 I saw 10-1 as pretty realistic. 8-3 ain't bad either but with the Coach packing up for VT it just really throws a damper on the whole thing..... at least for me it does.
Yes, 10-3 is still there and I kind of expect 9-3 but the bowl game with an interim coach / staff?

Kinda depends on the match-up. If we play a team with a mediocre offense and a mediocre defense that went 6-6, I like our chances.

Like they say in showbusiness, "them's the breaks."
Always enjoy the good times. Savor every winning moment while it lasts, keeping in mind that nothing lasts forever.

RE: From the euphoria of 8-0....
Well we've looked pretty crappy the last 4 games and now we have a lame duck coach. If you play uninspired football you can lose to anyone. We aren't the same team we were earlier in the year. Last week was ugly. Repeat that and a loss to a bad SMU team is entirely possible.
The layoff before the bowl could be a good thing for us though. We'll see. We're pretty dinged up so that could help us get healthy. So many other variables, but whoever we play will have a whole month to game plan for us. With a staff on the way out, who knows who will be left in charge or how that will go. Hopefully our guys can regroup.
To say that we're looking 8-5 in the face might be pessimistic, but it seems more realistic given the recent events than 10-3. I'll split and say we end up 9-4.

SMU has a dangerous offense and is quite capable of beating us if we don't play well. I'm hoping for rain - as it should be to our advantage. To hell with the candy-asses who stay home.

That's my hope. The team needs time to heal physically, emotionally AND mentally. I would really love to say that we finished with 10 wins in back-to-back years. That, and going out a winner are goals worth fighting for to anyone with an ounce of pride and dedication.

Its a good year even if we did drop both. Just crappy how it ended, but there is great hope for another good season next year.
