RE: Memphis Calls the ante
IMO it all comes down to being in a P5 conference and all the exposure it brings. Memphis does not offer that

Do you really think that Louisville, just as an example, got more exposure than Memphis this year?

More exposure for Oregon State this year, or Houston?

Generic annually-mediocre P5? Or Boise St. year in and year out?

There are advantages to being in a P5 conference (most of them can be stacked, counted, and have traces of cocaine on them) but exposure is not necessarily one of them.

Lets look at it this way. Memphis is arguably having its best season ever and could wind up in the Birmingham against a .500 opponent.

Access is absolutely one of the other advantages, yes

Memphis is a brand name school. Maybe not in football like in years past, but basketball. Bringing both sports in with Memphis can boast the SoS for the Big 12. Cincinnati and Houston as well. Temple is an iffy right now. This is their best year in a long time, but it does not guarantee that they keep football up. Memphis had back to back winning seasons which seems if the coach stays put? They will have more winning seasons to come.

Cincinnati is the school that should be nervous.

Their football recruiting was enhanced by playing in the Big East for a decade. They face a recruiting threat from new FBS schools and their own conference mates who have elevated.
