Moral victories in deed. The context is Saban talking up Charleston Southern to a skeptical media. I was proud of our team's effort that day, but I remember Coach Monken's post-game interview when the rushing numbers were brought up and he said, "Stats are for losers!" and then went on to point out the mistakes we made that reduced our chances to win.

I think his message was a planned message more for his team than it was for the media.

Doubt it. I'm confident Saban made darn sure his team was aware of what happened against Ga Southern. The rant was clearly aimed at the idiotic questions being asked by the media.

"You can't assume anything"
"We had only given up 300 yards in 10 games and all anybody wanted to talk about is how dominate the front was and nobody could run against us."
"You don't remember that. Maybe you weren't around then. Maybe you weren't old enough."

Monken was good at that. It's ironic since his teams (at times) were probably some of the most undisciplined teams we've ever had.

And the staff couldn't handle personnel packages.

Or get playcalls down to the field in a timely fashion.

Or realize that special teams can lose you lots of games.

I'm actually seeing Monken coach this weekend as I visit West Point and watch Rutgers vs Army on Saturday (buddy of mine played for RU). It's an hour drive for me (a bit manageable compared to the 13 hour drive south to Athens). Also excited to see West Point. I heard it's an amazing place to visit!

I have fairly good seats on the Army side and I'll be wearing my BLUE Eagle gear. I'm curious how many of the Army fan base know Monken coached at Georgia Southern. Perfect crisp fall weather should make the game fun to watch!

Quote:Georgia Southern is cashing in on Nick Saban's latest rant.

The school will begin selling "tin horn" and Saban inspired t-shirts next week at the university store, according to Eddie Mills, the associate vice president for auxiliary services at Georgia Southern.

Only Southern is arrogant enough to make tshirts bragging on a loss

I thought the comments from Saban were funny, and showed semi-respect, but I think we are going a little overboard with shirts, etc. Just my .02.

The idea that there are no moral victories is pure crap. That game brought more attention to us than probably any regular-season win we've had sans Florida.

But I agree that the T-shirt goes a bit far.

Maybe Saban was right?

Halftime, and Florida and FAU are tied.
Also at halftime, the Citadel leads South Carolina 14-9.

FAU isn't playing well, Florida just sucks.

Citadel/South Carolina is pretty similar to the Florida/GS game a couple years ago. Last place SEC team with their coach almost out of a job, going nowhere playing a end of the season nonconference game against an FCS opponent with a very difficult offense to scheme for.

ULL fans will be thrilled to note that they just ran the highlights of the Florida/ULL game from 2011 that Hudspeth sort of blew.

Cherry on top of the mess and nail in Richt's coffin? Can't say I'm rooting for you as Georgia was my late father's team so I grew up watching them, but they're a distant second for me, so I'll say good luck, I think you guys have a shot.

FAU knots it up at 14 with a forced fumble and recovery in the endzone. 8:03 to play.
