All of the AAC bowls are pretty much equivalent imo. Might as well go to one within driving distance. The SEC opponent is a plus.

Cool.

Right now ESPN projects Cincy to Birmingham.

Hmmm...3,000 from Cincy or 110-15,000 from Memphis to watch Memphis play Auburn?

Easy call.

ESPN throws darts at a board to do their 'projections'

Palm's (CBS) are pretty decent...he has Memphis vs Auburn in B'ham

ESPN does own the Birmingham Bowl so..........Oh wait, I forgot who I was responding to. Never mind .

lol, what a petulant little miserable...McMurphy and Schlabach have less than nothing to do with picking the bowl teams.

It'd be cool to run our series record against them to 3-0!

I heard or saw something in print (don't recall which one) that ole miss had apprx. 35,000 fans a few years back that pretty much made it like a home game. If we play Auburn, it will pretty much be a home game for them. But I also think, because of the close proximity to Memphis (2 1/2-3 hour drive) that we should have 15 to 20,000 fans, or possibly more in attendance. Hopefully I'll be right in my guess, we'll see.

RE: What's the weather like in Birmingham in late December?
Do we care more about a payout or "optics" ?

Let's say the Miami Beach Bowl pays more than the BHam Bowl (idk if it does, just spitballing here) would we rather take Miami and a Sun Belt team during the middle of the day with little fan presence for 250k-500k more than what the BHam Bowl can offer? Fans would drive to BHam, we could play/beat a 6-6 Auburn team that could care less after they were favored to win the SEC...looks better (optics).

What say you? Anyone know what the school prefers??

Not a bad city.

Not an engaging city. Has parts of the worst parts of Memphis without a lot of redeeming characteristics. Has a couple affluent "mountain" neighborhoods, crumbling Legion Field, bad traffic at times, a lack of nightlife and quality restaurants, and crime. It does have lovely Birmingham-Southern and a wonderful Episcopal church downtown.

And oh, it also has UAB.....

Brilliant: https://www.zagat.com/americas-next-hot-...birmingham

Why is 65 such a cluster eff every time I go through there?

I don't think the payout matters compared to these lower bowls. The school gets half the payout (minus unsold tickets) and the conference gets half for the bowl pool to be paid out to all the teams plus a slice for the conference office.

If Auburn plays it will be filled no matter the opponent.
