RE: CAA Basketball
The "next big thing" currently making its way around college basketball world, especially in the Mid-Major arena, is to copy the success of the Golden State Warriors. That plan calls for 4-5 interchangeable players, all in the 6'5" to 6'8" size, all good shooters and all capable of guarding, at least, 3-4 different positions. This allows for constantly switching defenses and offense coming from many different scorers.

Our team (not saying that was our master plan - I have NO idea what our master plan might be) is certainly built along those lines, with four interchangeable guard/wings and a big man for the high post.

If that is a basis for our team, and it already is for many (ie., Richmond), then that would predicate constantly trying to recruit that size/type player. It's pretty well accepted in the recruiting community that it is much easier for mid-major schools to find players for this type of system, than to go after (and lose) the other type players being recruited by the Power 5 schools.

As BGR said, whatever formula we are using appears to be currently working pretty well, so keep up the good work.

Compared to Cohn, he's out of position, but he'd have started and been pretty good for us if Cohn didn't take his spot. We agree that more Tot is better, though, and he certainly has the size to play the SF spot. I think it would be interesting if he were the first man off the bench as part of a rotation with Omar and David. In this scenario, he'd get a lot of minutes alongside Cohn. We saw in the tourney that he's too good to keep off the court, but there just wasn't space for him this year.

RE: CAA Basketball
Kory Holden is transferring from Delaware...Hate to see talent leaving the CAA, since would seem unlikely they would let him go to another CAA school...Two years eligibility...Can't see how UD is keeping Ross...Also, saw reference on UNCW board about Canyon Barry possibly leaving...Found nothing elsewhere...In a side note, Stanford just let go of Johnny Dawkins. Would make an interesting choice for JMU.

Nothing official on that, but it's a strong possibility he goes the Damion Lee route given the following:

* He's set to graduate a year early, meaning he can transfer without sitting out a year.

* He's a bright kid, double majoring in Physics and computer science with a minor in mathematics (pretty sure he wants to be a nuclear physicist).

Makes perfect sense for him to get started on Grad School elsewhere while simultaneously playing for a bigger program. This is an option I assume will be readily available given that he was averaging 19.7 points per game and would have been Juan'ya Green's top competition for CAA Player of the Year had he not gotten hurt.

This decision isn't exactly Rocket Science. Which Canyon would know more than rest of us.

Best Nuclear Physics grad programs in the country (per US News) who also play big-time college basketball:

* Michigan St.
* Washington
* Indiana
* Duke
* California
* Notre Dame

I imagine one of the above would be a likely destination for Canyon.

Actually Colorado...So, if he graduates early this year, do the graduate transfer rules allow his remaining two years of eligibility or just one? Interesting options.

I would imagine just one, otherwise that would be a highly exploitable loophole.

Remember, he'd have to get a Medical redshirt to get back his Junior season. I think he played too high a percentage of Charleston's games to be granted one. He's a Senior.

Didn't see anything in the rules precluding eligibility for 2 years...Would seem like a no brainer from the academic, as well as, athletic side.

Barry played 3 years and he played too many games (13 of 31 - greater than the 30% threshold) this year to be eligible for a medical redshirt. He only has 1 year to go.

I cannot imagine Dawkins going from making over a million a year to making 300k at JMU. He will probably have better options.

Would expect an impossibility for JMU, also, but it does put him back closer to home in DC.

Then again, 300k in Harrisonburg goes just about as far as 1M in Palo Alto!

Actually it would go farther because you can't even get a 1200 sq ft house in Palo Alto for 1M where as you can get a nice house around JMU for 3 or 400K 04-jawdrop
