Good job, congratulations. Now that you have figured out who they are please share your insights because one quarter they look like Dr. Jekyll and the next they look like Mr. Hyde to me----one team with several contrasting personas. Fortunately they have enough talent to be 8-1 even with Mr. Hyde becoming the more dominant persona as the season moves on.
I answered this exact question shortly after in the same thread.
You did indeed and your answer made sense. I just now read your response to NMRocket who had asked the same question. Thanks

Because it should be about the pursuit of excellence. Not "just good enough". And I put that on the coaches. If they start to doubt their own team and play not to lose, then I think we fall short of pursuing excellence. Acceptance of anything less breeds 2nd place finishes. Just my opinion.
8-1 is 8-1 and there aren't many 8-1 teams left but for us old codgers this practice of turning laughers into nail biters is bad for the heart. Big plus is that Hunt sort of looked like Hunt in the fourth. He just had that "dare you to stop me" look back. Jameson Vest proved that he is a freshman. Glad we got out with a nice road win. Now we need BG to beat Western and Western to beat BG and we'll be OK.
huh? I know that was probably intentional, so I think you are saying you want BG to win so that Western gets a MAC loss - but BG doesn't get credit for the win. Have to pull for BG and another loss by NIU. That means we could still lose to BG and then beat WMU and take the West - I think. We would only have 1 loss in the West which may take the tiebreaker over NIU of teams with 2 losses. We would win the head to head over WMU and CMU. That may not be correct, but I'll go with it. I just don't feel confident we will beat BG this year unless we can get out to a 70 point lead heading into the 4th.
Yeah, I just can't bring myself to root for BG but I have to.

I cannot figure out who they are?
They're a team with a solid head coach, but a terrible OC who happens to be the HC's best friend. The talent is high, but psychologically the players get beat up throughout the course of the game when even they can see that the coaches purposely avoid their strength, as if they are trying to "trick" the opponent. They're a team that the conference officials obviously hate. I watch a lot of MAC games, and there isn't a single team in the MAC that gets, or doesn't get, the calls that we get. The skipped reviews for obvious turnovers and the phantom penalties at critical times. It's bad. This is who they are. Enough talent on the field to compete, but not enough brains or courage on the sideline or in the press box to win a championship.
Every team in the MAC probably feels this way. The MAC officials are bad and yesterday they were bad for you.

Only because we played yesterday. OU, Kent and CMU also got screwed by the officials.

Yep, I didn't think we got more bad calls against us than CMU - by the on-field officials.
However, the fact that the booth officials did not even chose to review either the Whittaker INT or the catch close to the sideline shortly thereafter was IMO a travesty. They may not have overturned either play, but to not review them at all was unacceptable. And it seemed there were more than a few times that the ref had to ask for the clock to be reset, so not sure what the booth officials were doing.

I was at a bar so didn't hear the audio - what were the announcers saying about that non-review of the interception? That was bizarre.

MAC officials unfortunately seem to have a job more than just officiating the game. They appear to be the artificial parody and it appears that it is not by accident or under no guidance. We've seen this for years now

Okay, with your "we can take care of WMU" perspective: Rockets win the last two games that may well still leave us tied with NIU. The loss to the Huskies took the solo control out of the Rockets' hands. NIU needs a loss at Buffalo, WMU or Ohio at DeKalb. The way Western is playing and the Rockets are playing, I will be rootng for BG.
