Beach Volleyball Makes Debut At College Sand Clash Exhibition

ATLANTA, Georgia – UNCW doubles team of Ashleigh Crutcher and Lindsey Jones finished with a record of 4-4 in sets won to lead the Seahawks at the College Sand Clash hosted by Georgia State in a fall exhibition over the weekend.

UNCW, which will makes its Beach Volleyball debut this spring, sent three doubles teams to the exhibition which included teams from Stetson, LSU, North Florida, Spring Hill College and host Georgia State.

Rounding out the UNCW contingent were the doubles teams of Courtney Mullinax and Bethany Gesell and Anna Grauel and Alex Marstall, which both 1-7 in sets action.

Crutcher and Jones opened their tournament appearance splitting a pair of sets against North Florida's Brittany Pase and Shannon McPherson. After dropping two to LSU's Carly Morris and Megan Davenport, the duo rebounded with a sweep of Spring Hill College and later added a split against Spring Hill College in their tournament finale.

Host Georgia State posted the tournament's best combined record at 53-11 and was followed by LSU at 28-20. Stetson finished third with a mark of 30-26 while North Florida was 15-17 and placed fourth. UNCW (6-18) and Spring Hill rounded out the standings (8-48).
