Is this definitely happening? Going to be a long year if they sit out.
It has been reported by multiple media people as well as Doc saying it was a very real chance of Carey, Chapman, and Holland (I believe that's right) redshirting this year
RE: USM self-imposes postseason ban for 2nd straight year
I've said it before and I'll say it again.
For our conference, its a sound strategy to go with experienced coaches looking to get back (i.e. retreads). We are able to build continuity and a basketball brand that way. There are many reasons why Doc didn't work at Nebraska. Glad its working out for USM.

Get a young assistant in there who has fire and a passion to move up. He's going to leave, but he'll leave you better than he found you.

I'd find that a bit odd.
Carey is probably the best player on the team.
Chapman nor Holland are D1 basketball players.
Chapman and Carey have one year left to play. They knew there wouldn't be any sort of post-season this year for the team. Maybe (just speculating), the AD and BBall coaches feel like our self-imposed two year post season ban will appease the NCAA and we will be eligible next season at least for the C-USA Tourney and then Carey and Champan can finish their careers how they started, in the post-season.

Quite possibly. Didn't consider that.
and it makes sense with trying to recover as quickly as possible.....what I find interesting is the players are okay with this....
I think that speaks even larger about supporting Doc as mentor and coach.

While I wasn't sold on the hire when it initially happened, I'm now glad that Doc has been our coach through all of the turmoil. From the whispers on campus, attitude of the Athletics Department, and the reports here and there regarding our team the players seem to really respect Doc as a person and as a coach. I think that is evident by the decision of Carey, Chapman, and Holland to sit out this year. Doc has been steady and calm throughout this process and has continued to press on day-in and day-out. He really has embodied the Southern Spirit of resilience and true grit in the face of adversity.
I think we're in for a .500 or near .500 season year this year and then back to the CUSA Tournament next year (pending any NCAA rulings). This year may even turn out to be somewhat of a "training" year where some of the younger guys get experience and develop and could eventually benefit us when we come out the other end of Donnie Tyndall's mess (you never know).
OT: Donnie Tyndall is now almost, if not exactly, on the equivalent level of Eloss in my mind.

Comparing Tyndall and Eloss (and therefore Monken and Sadler) has caused me to be shouted down the past two years. Glad to see people are finally realizing the truth in the comparison.
