RE: 16 teams still in national title hunt
just stop with your idiocy not having Alabama and Florida in tier 1. If they win out, they are in the playoffs GUARANTEED. And you know it. Repeat after me- Alabama and Florida 100% control their own destiny right now. PERIOD. Any one with a brain knows that.

That's not the point. If Ohio State loses for the first time, they would still have a chance. If Alabama or Florida loses, they are done.

If that's the case- sorry but Clemson, Oklahoma St, Baylor, and Iowa are in the EXACT same boat. If any of those 4 lose, they have no chance. Ohio St right now is the only team in the country that could lose and still make it. The only one.

and also- if Ohio St loses to Michigan St- Ohio St has no chance at all unless Michigan St loses a game.

Houston might be in the hunt. One school that was in a power conference, and more of an edge over the other AAC schools that are ranked because of their history.

nope. Schedule just not good enough to get in the top 4 at all.

By that logic Navy is in the title hunt. They used to compete for national titles and Heisman Trophys.

The service academies are still being considered P5 schools by the P5 conferences.

I would not say Michigan St controls their own destiny. If Clemson, Alabama, Notre Dame/Stanford, and Baylor/Oklahoma St win out- they are by no means a lock. Hell, I'd even include Oklahoma in there as well.

And sorry- but UNC has right now no chance in hell of making it.

Michigan State doesn't control their own destiny. Here's just one scenario where even if they win out, their fate is, at best, a tossup in the hands of the committee:

Clemson 13-0
Baylor or Ok St 12-0
Alabama or Florida 12-1
Utah 12-1
Michigan State 12-1
Notre Dame 11-1

I think a 12-1 Big 10 Champ Michigan State with wins over Iowa, Michigan, Ohio State, and Oregon gets in over Notre Dame and Stanford...

Also, if Notre Dame and the PAC 12 are eliminated, then North Carolina becomes a real consideration, assuming they were to win out and upset #1 Clemson in the ACC Championship...will that happen? probably not, but saying they have zero chance right now isn't true

I really think the PAC 12 and ND are on the outside looking in this year....the PAC 12 is MEDIOCRE this year...they played poorly in OOC play, and they've beaten themselves up for the most part. Utah was blasted by USC, and Stanford lost to Northwestern...

As for Notre Dame, they would need to beat the snot out of Stanford, and then hope Stanford won the PAC 12. I think they will have the same problem the Big XII does frankly....they'll be sitting at home while other schools in conference championship games have a chance to go prove themselves

The Big 10 is having a really great year...they've got quite a few teams in the top 25. Michigan State, if they beat Ohio State and Iowa, is going to have a really strong case for a playoff bid

Utah lost to USC (who will probably be 8-4 or 9-3) and beat Michigan. MSU lost to Nebraska (who won't even be bowl-eligible unless they beat Iowa) and only beat Michigan because of one of the luckiest, most fluky game-ending plays of all time. Notre Dame, if they win out, would have wins over two probable 10-win teams and two other teams that could win 9, and their only loss is a 2-point road loss to the #1 team. No reasonable person would think that a one-loss MSU is a lock in that scenario. They are not even close to controlling their own destiny today.
