Maximum Number of Undefeateds = 4
1. One of Ok St/Baylor (they play on Nov 21 in Stillwater)
2. One of Ohio St/Iowa (they might play in the B1G Title Game)
3. Clemson
4. Houston
Assuming Memphis stays ranked and Navy becomes ranked, Houston would have to beat two ranked teams in the last three games to run the table before likely facing a ranked Temple in the American Title Game. A tall order, even if the first two games vs ranked teams are at Houston.
Clemson has a much easier road, likely only facing a ranked UNC team in the ACC Title Game.
Likewise, Iowa has an easier road than Houston at least until the Big 10 Title Game.
Ohio State has a treacherous last two regular season games vs ranked teams (home vs. Mich St, @ Michigan) before the Big 10 Title Game.

What will be fun is if Baylor whips up on Oklahoma State, then TCU beats Baylor like a rented mule. Assuming that those three teams win all of their remaining games, you have three 11-1 teams, each having lost badly in a late conference game. You will have three teams with a legitimate argument for inclusion in the playoff, but no CCG and a host of others with a single loss or less.

It might be a way for a 1-loss Notre Dame or even a 1-loss LSU to sneak into the playoff.

that scenario = DOA Big 12 for playoff.

Not necessarily DOA for sure, but another "No True Champion" scenario would give wavering committee members an excuse to look elsewhere, especially if there are a few other one-loss teams from which to choose. A CCG does have the danger of an upset, but a CCG also guarantees a definite champ for a conference.
