It is. Heat signature may indicate an explosion of some sort. TWA 800 left a lot of questions about what ignited the center fuel tank...they really never located the electrical short that cause the explosion... I think proceedures for empty center fuel tanks were changed as a result of TWA 800's explosion though...

I still remember the CIA video...

NOT a missile..... blah blah blah.... NOT a missile....

I've posted before that although I don't hold to many conspiracy theories (eg. 911, Kennedy, etc) I've never been quite comfortable with the explanation of TWA 800.

me either...

You can put me in the same boat.

The fact that literally hundreds of people saw something is enough for me.

There is a conspiracyesque documentary on the topic on Hulu. It is pretty damning when you have lead investigators from both the NTSB, and the airlines claiming the FBI screwed that whole investigation and that what was told to the public was outright bull****.

There is also a pretty awesome part where they speak to the inventor of some of the equipment that was used who directly contradicts what the FBI head said.

"Well, those machines give a lot of false positives." FBI

"No, they are extremely accurate and there is next to no chance of a false positive because..." Inventor of the machine

Pretty interesting if you are in the mood for it.

They should have tried to cross the Red Sea on foot instead.

Thanks

Brits have the same opinion. Bomb. 20,000 Brits down at Sharm and with the U.K. Restriction on flights out of Sharm they are figuring how to get them home.

I didn't link because I saw stories all over google. Figured it would be easy.

The Brits first came up with the Bomb conclusion. They shut down flights to the UK out of Sharm. DHS and CIA confirmed this afternoon.

"Informed speculation" suggests Putin will use this incident to bolster Russian Army & Air Force deployments in Syria under the justification of going after ISIS.

Not exactly what I'd want if I was in a USAF Strike Package hitting a target in Syria. No clear & reliable deconfliction procedures in effect.

And the Russian public will learn its the cost of his actions.

I need to watch that again. FBI has no biz investigating aviation accidents crashes. NTSB is really good, and they are the experts. How did the FBI get involved?

If it's like every time I have dealt with the FBI probably because they felt they might get some good press.

The Russian FSB could have placed a Bomb on the aircraft. Gives Putin an excuse to escalate in Syria and maybe expand anti-ISIS attacks into Iraq.

Surprised that has not happened here and elsewhere more often. Britain cancelled flights into that Airport.

Apparently something happened to the tail of the aircraft years ago and there is speculation it may have not been fixed properly. Who knows if we will ever find out the real reason of the crash though.

I watch the **** out of those air crash investigation shows and I want to say there was one on the very same topic.

Same here. There are 3-4 of them that are really good.

I thought I was the only one. Right now I watch Air Disasters on Smithsonian. They pack a great deal of analysis into an hour.

Why on Earth was JAL using a 747 for a domestic flight in the first place? Tokyo to Osaka is like Mew York to Philly. I'm impressed they got 500+ people to buy that ticket.

They used specially modified 747s because Japanese airports had limited runway capacities at the time. So instead of frequency, the airlines needed density. It was basically a solution to an infrastructure problem.

Also, despite Japan's rail coverage, there were several places that were better accessed by air.

I don't think that will help Putin in Russian public opinion (not that he needs the votes or anything). It makes his adventure look more like Afghanistan in the 1980s.

Russia's bombing campaign has nothing to do with ISIS. It's all about suppressing Sunnis to make Syria safe for Assad. I don't see any conceivable reason for Russia to want to bomb anywhere in Iraq, unless it's purely at the behest of Iran.
