It's not even about the ease of it. It is just an exposure and household tv counts. It hurts MAC institutions to play weeknight games...just a bitter pill to swallow when that sacrifice does not even bring any exposure benefits
Doesn't bring any exposure? I get it that locals prefer the Saturday games, but NIU coverage is non existent nationally when their MAC games get buried in with every other collegiate football game on football Saturday.
Weekday games get betting action, they get prime time national television coverage, they get ESPN and similar sports highlight show coverage that evening and the next morning, they get national newspaper blurbs the next morning.
I agree that attendance suffers some from the cold, weeknight games. But it's not like all these stadiums are sold out on Saturdays.
Better to be the only fish in a small pond on a Tuesday then get lost in the giant pond on Saturday.
^This.
I've met a lot of college football fans, mostly Gator fans, in the short time I've lived here. What surprised me was that a lot of them tune into November MACtion games. And, those fans say they always watch when NIU is playing!
We have established a national brand and being on ESPN in November is a big factor in that.
Exactly. When we beat Toledo this week we will hear about it on ESPN that following day, where as on a Saturday it would just be on the bottom of the ticker and very little talk about it. Couldn't ask for a better slot this week against a ranked team. Saturday game would be on ESPN3

Hmmm. It's working fine on my phone and even when I broadcast it to my TV.
It could be internet/weather related. Did you try at least restarting the MacBook? Or your router?
Maybe it's that particular game. Did you try another?

We're the ONLY Football Game on Tuesday night. Prime Time against a ranked team. ESPN productions are well done and they know what to show for crowd shots and showcasing schools facilities. (When in DeKalb...Chessick...Yordon....Fattys!...)

This is why all of our games should be midweek on ESPN. It's great for our millions of fans across the nation.

They are saying that it's not all bad. It's horrible for attendance and great for national exposure and recruiting. They are right.

With attendance at live sporting events down in general, TV has never been more important. I hate midweek games but I get it.

I'm nowhere near convinced on the recruiting benefit. Like everyone else on this board, I need facts. Show me the facts about recruits who chose NIU because they saw our games on ESPN.

Every year recruits say they knew about NIU and decided to come because of seeing us on TV. Facts, no. But overwhelming anecdotal evidence.

Akron is a good defensive team. CMU is a decent team. If Hare wasn't quarterbacking with fish flippers that day NIU wins.
