This thread has me:
The best classic is the Labor Day Classic.

The MCC has grown into a commendable event, but let's face it, regardless of statistics like attendance and economic impact, when it comes to Classics, there is the Bayou Classic, and then there's everyone else. That's the Granddaddy Classic.
Sadly, NCAA counts this game at a neutral site. How much would these schools be worth in FBS if they have stadiums that can seat that many?

Yeah because that's all it takes to be FBS, a giant stadium. Like Tulane, formerly, South Florida, Pitt and UMass to name a few.

Now that it's been mentioned, I really am surprised that the Magic City Classic hasn't gotten more attention.
I generally don't follow FCS and most people don't so I think that's probably the biggest reason.
Nonetheless, the MCC is a great event.

Hey I'll be at the Bayou Classic this year too! Hopfully Southern will win out until then which would make The Bayou Classic the Western Division title game again.
Good luck to Alabama State in the Magic City Classic!
Good luck to you guys this weekend against Alcorn. That's going to be a BIG one!
Thanks, we will need that luck. Alcorn is, IMO, still easily the class of the league. We had a good team last year and they manhandled us twice, in the regular season and in the SWAC title game.
I know Grambling just beat them, 35-34 in a nail-biter, but I still think they are the odds-on favorite to win the SWAC again. They have a really good coach who i hope gets noticed by an FBS team and moves up soon, LOL.
IMO, we lost our season when we got beat at home by Prairie View. Technically, we are still right there in the running for the SWAC West, but a loss to Alcorn would knock us out, and i think that's what's likely to happen tomorrow.

Yall need to get that defense whipped into shape, it gave us a chance against yall in the 4th quarter and ultimately cost yall the Prairie View game.

Beats me. If you listen to local sports radio in Birmingham they barely ever mention it despite it being the largest sporting event in the city every year. Just this morning 3 Nationally televised radio shows are doing their live shows from Birmingham for the Classic(Tom Joyner, Steve Harvey, and Ricky Smiley), 2 shows will happen later today(ESPN's The Right Time with Bomani Jones and The D.L Hughley Show). There's almost a Hollywood A-list of celebrities that attend the game from Bill Cosby, Oprah, Jamie Foxx, Steve Harvey, Ice Cube, and ect. With all of that attention what baffles me is how sports talk radio in Biringham NEVER mentions it. The ESPN show Cold Pizza shot live there back in 2005, CBS Sports shot live back in 2008, and there was a push to bring ESPN Gameday last year.

Nobody cares because it is a game between two schools that are nothing short of total wastes of taxpayer money, especially ASU.

You're a waste of DNA which is probably why nobody cares about you! To say nobody cares is a lie. The only time Legion Field is pack and Birmingham is the football Capital of The South again is when the Classic is in town.

Totally beside the point, which was that you left out key information about the Magic City Classic's television situation, in a vain attempt to enhance the perception of its importance versus the much more famous and big-time Bayou Classic.
But if you want to go there, I still recall Southern traveling to Alabama State a few weeks ago and notching an easy victory over you guys. Nice memory.

A 10-point win in which we spotted y'all 21 points.

An 11-point win on the road is 'easy' by any measure. And you scored a garbage-time TD very late to get even that close. We were so far up we took our foot off the pedal. And how many times in a row have we beat you, is it 3 or 4?
I forget.

The Biggest game that you've probably never heard about

How is the Bayou Classic The Grandaddy of Classics when its only 40 years old?
It's the "Granddaddy" in the sense that it's easily the most famous "classic". Nobody else is close, which is why you had to create this thread. And I seriously doubt anyone in the 1930s was calling your game the "Magic City Classic" either. SU and Grambling have been playing since the 1920s, it's just been billed as a "classic" since 1974. Look, you guys have a nice classic buried in the middle of Alabama. Good for you, and us Jaguars enjoy competing versus both of you. We're going to beat both Magic City Classic teams this year (one down, one to go).
But don't forget your place.
And how long do you think ASU/AAMU have been playing? The game moved to Birmingham in 1940 and took on The name Magic City Classic and was then the largest sporting event between HBCUs at the time. The Bayou Classic is one of my favorite events but it is not the Grandaddy of HBCU Cassics.
You seem hung up on the word "granddaddy". OK, fair enough. The Bayou Classic is far and away the most famous classic.
TSU & JSU.
