Kemy, Stetson, and Marius. From what little I've seen, they'll certainly have roles on this year's team. Kemy can shoot the ball, play hard defense and rebound. Stetson can play hard defense and rebound, and will probably do more scoring in this offensive scheme. And Marius, if he plays to his strengths will be a good player.

Obviously Mareik will play a big role when he becomes healthy and able to practice in order to get into shape. And Roger will certainly play a big role. I think a lot more players are going to contribute this year than in the past. Ten deep or more could get significant minutes.04-cheers

Some pretty decent players will not play much considering our deep roster. The 3 returnees you mention might fall in that category considering the current coaching staff did not recruit any of them. Wouldn't shock me if our 2 preseason all-conference selections don't start. At this point, I don't have a clue what Coach Beard's starting line-up will look like.

Josh didn't start most of the time last year did he?

RE: Pappy mentions the forgotten returnees,
It depends on how you define "starter." He started 8 out of 31 games, but he had the 3rd most minutes on the team.

I figure Josh will get starters minutes because he plays two positions very well. Who actually begins games is irrelevant to me.

To me, the only way to define "starter" is a player who is on the court when the ball is thrown up to start the game. I remember several times he didn't enter the game until we had dug ourselves a hole, and Shields needed Josh to get him out of it, and several times it was at the ten or eleven minute mark of the first half. That's why I always want my best players on the court as much as possible.

Josh didn't start because we had a coach who didn't play his best people like he should have. No wonder he is not the coach anymore. Josh is the best guard in our league. He will prove it this year.

From what little I've been able to witness at practices, Josh is the leader of the team on the court, and probably off. He's been the take charge guy. He could well be the best guard in the league this year.

I feel pretty certain he'll start, but it could be at the two or the point.
Johnson is very slick at the point, and I feel Josh will be more productive where he can move to get open without the ball. But here's the rub. Rutley and Jalen Jackson are very talented and probably deserve to be starters, but where does Mareik fit in? At the three? Or at the four? There is so much competition for playing time this year that it's nearly impossible to figure it all out. But I have confidence Coach Beard will figure it out.04-cheers

Pappy mentions the forgotten returnees,
By the way in a motion offense you can get rid of the 1,2,3,4 and 5 everyone is interchangeable.

But it doesn't work without a point guard, whether or not you call him a 1.

RE: Pappy mentions the forgotten returnees,
I don't understand enough about the offense to comment intelligently about it. I get the point that it is the system, and not individual positions, and so traditional designations cease to mean as much in the motion offense, particular 2 through 4. However, at some point particular talents have to come into play. If you are getting pounded on the boards, the coach obviously won't throw a 5-10 player into the fray, and the player who does go in may not be as mobile as the others. It will be a learning process for me as we get into the season. Probably for many of us. I have a lot to learn.
