Walk-ons play critical roles in Tigers’ success

"University of Memphis quarterback Paxton Lynch threw three touchdown passes in a 37-24 win over then-No. 13 Ole Miss on Saturday.

The first was caught by a walk-on long snapper from Millington High School who is now an all-conference tight end.

The second went to a walk-on wide receiver from Christian Brothers High School, who held every major receiving record at the school but didn't get a single Football Bowl Subdivision offer.

And the third was caught by a walk-on receiver from Whitehaven High School. Three years ago, he transferred to Memphis from Arkansas-Pine Bluff and fought for repetitions on the scout team"

It's not suppose to work like this.

02-13-banana It would seem to me that excellent coaching by Fuente and staff has a lot to do with their success at the D1 level.

Exciting to think of the possibilities of what this program can do if we can hang on to Fuente & staff. Lots of games on national TV, being this years non P5 Cinderella story and trucking an SEC team should lead to an uptick in recruiting. You see what they're doing with a roster of walk on's, love to see what they could do with a bunch of 2,3,4 stars.

Fuente has been better than anyone at finding diamonds in the rough. I also think he recognizes effort and heart.

1 Wow! Did not know so many of our starters/ key reserves were walk ons like Frazier, Miller , Mayhue, etc.

2 Maybe silly question- How does Fuente's talents transfer to a big school where the recruiting classes are expected to be loaded with 4 and 5 stars? Fuente has shown he can be successful at every aspect of a college HC except signing big time recruits. Of course, these big programs will give him some resources and tradition that Memphis and even TCU football do not have. I just wonder how he will do in big time recruiting arena. I have ZERO doubts in any of his other abilities.
