Exclamation Some Observations after Second Watch
1. Our defense has definitively improved since beginning of season, specifically in getting pressure on qb, stopping the run, covering up in the back, and making tackles.

2. Lynch and the receivers are in a groove that's very difficult to stop. He's mobile to get out of trouble; the receivers routes are tight; his throws are on a dime with more than enough velocity; they make the catch almost every time. They're walkons that do what they're supposed to do, and he makes them look like Jerry Rice clones.

3. Much to the chagrin of many, the bubble screen was very effective.

4. Our running game needs to continue to improve.

RE: Some Observations after Second Watch
I hate to make it seem so simple, but I spent the game watching Maulet, and cringing when he lined up at the beginning of the game on the line to bump the receiver. After the touchdown on the WR pass when he bit, he spent the rest of the game dropping about 12 yards off into coverage. That is, until the last Mississippi drive, when he stayed close, bit on the play fake, and was bailed out by the safety.

If he had played back at Bowling Green, Memphis would have won by 17.

On a positive note, he got rocked in the first half, and came back and played the rest of the game.

He might be our most important defender.

1. They are doing a better job of communicating with each other and knowing where they need to be for the defensive stops. They are a bend-don't break defense

2. Pro QB that makes others better. E'nuff Said!

3. Bubbles screens is a form of running in today's football schemes

4. Need to use the 3 different backs for different occasions based on who they are playing

??? You say that we would have won at BG by 17 if he played, but your post would make one think he was the worst player on the field. He was covering some of the best receivers in the nation.

It's about us using him to the best of his abilities. Miss went after him in the second play of the game. Then our coaching staff gave him a chance to succeed, and we shut them down.

One thing I learned from watching the replay is that Briarcrest is just around the corner form the Liberty Bowl.

4 would be fine if that is what was actually occurring...Seems like they are taking turns in order to keep everyone happy.

We ran that four receiver diamond set outside a couple of times on screens but we have to run something else off of it. The second time they blew it up for a loss.

I have a feeling we will see some different plays out of that formation when necessary... No reason to expose a variation when you are up by 17 most of the second half. 02-13-banana

Yeah and a few weeks ago I learned the University of Memphis Medical Center was where they took Gunner.

If Cooper had just a little more speed, he would be a premier back.

They were several times that a hole opened and he just doesn't have the breakaway speed to hit it.

He is really a fullback-not a speed demon. Very surprised he is getting bulk of carries ahead of Dorceus. He has been more consistent.

Dorceus does not look anywhere near 100% IMO. I believe they are limiting his touches for health reasons. It often takes two years to fully recover from a knee injury like his. I believe they are really just trying to ease him into action and really getting him ready to go for next season. It is nice though to have such a quality back to take the bulk of the snaps in the mean time.

I really want to see Jamarious, but I am sure there are some solid reasons he is 4th on the depth chart.

The injury to Nkemdiche and the following stop on 4th down definitely was the turning point in that game. I think Ole Miss knowing that their All-American guy wasn't coming back in the game killed their confidence on defense.

He goes to the ground pretty often to take contact or stay in bounds. I bet he breaks one before the year is over. I thought he scored on the TD they reviewed, great effort anyway.

I'm not convinced he's as lean, strong, and fast as his frame and build can handle. If he gets leaner while also building some strength and speed, he could be a dominant college back with a chance to prove himself at the next level.

People teach their dogs to sit; it's a trick. I've been sitting my whole life, and a dog has never looked at me as though he thought I was tricky.
