RE: Frazier's Corner
This entire thread leaves out significant points. The whole comment that changing to the AAC would be a detriment is ridiculous. Now our students have to ride on a bus for many many hours to get to games in the MAC and try that in the winter snows. We need to be flying to games, not busing. The cost of the AAC would be offset by many more positive cash flows from TV, etc.. Road trip to AAC cities would be much more attractive. Why do you think there is talk about upgrading the airport in DeKalb. This would make flights in and out of DeKalb possible and would benefit the local community in so many ways and the students from reduced travel time. For decades the AAC has had top ranked basketball teams such as UConn, Memphis, Houston, Cincy, etc. MAC basketball isn't even on the same planet.
Those who say NIU can't make this move need to get on board and lend their financial and other support to getting it done.

would the Big 12 or AAC WANT NIU?
That's the real question. Just because we say we're going to change doesn't
Mean it's going to happen. Nobody is pounding down our door to get us to make a move.
Anyone notice how that applies to the MAC as a whole? With all of this shuffling, not one MAC team has been affected. I don't count UMASS. What does THAT say?

Frazier is going to be on on Sirius XM this morning at 930am talking to Chris Childers. Not sure what the topics will be or if facilities upgrades will be discussed.

How is traveling on a bus for 7.5hr each way (Ohio, Akron & Kent St) for the non-revenue teams less of a hardship for the students than flying 2.5hr each way at most?

I highly doubt SF really going to worry about our 0-150 fans that show up to our away MAC games? We can easily make that up at every AAC school with our alums who live around those AAC schools.

As for MAC teams that have moved on to other conferences, Marshall to CUSA. Temple and UCF to the AAC.
Let's be frank. Schools like EMU should be in the FCS. With the declines in higher education that seem nationwide, others, such as Akron, are struggling to keep up. You can't stand still. If you are not moving ahead, you are falling further behind.

Marshall was over a decade ago and the MAC was a stepping stone right from the start with them. Temple was another associate member for football because they had no place to go. Again, like UMASS, a stepping stone.

Why hasn't Toledo been in any conversations, or Buffalo, Ohio, BG or even the Cradle of Coaches, Miami? I don't have the answer but I really wonder why schools in the MAC appear to have little interest from others.

Not sure if I am the only one, but I was a little confused by the purpose and the format. Was a lot of rattling off #s which I was like what's the point? Some #s were interesting, but actually seemed to go against NIU.

Was a cross between a R candidate's paid message by a superpac, a late night infomercial and a Flash Gordon serial where they kept you in suspense "until next time."

SF job is to have big dreams and inspire us like any good leader. Let us face reality, we have a season ticket base of 3,000 fans. So much for that Orange Bowl bounce. Keep in mind, we need to be invited to join a conference, we do not pick one. The MAC is our home for a very long time.

Well that's interesting and blunt.

He certainly has a lot of energy and plans but I just don't think that NIU really owns or has control of the Chicago market. I wish and hope that changes! I think that the fans and dollars are controlled by major sports and major college teams like ND. I also don't think the university is ready academically or financially. The endowment at NIU is very small and NIU has a very high level of debt. Those are not two things on his slide show in comparing to TCU, Boise, and Louisville because they would be glaring differences. Please don't shoot the messenger but I think those are major obstacles. That being said, he can certainly get some things done and he is a great AD.

Yes, this is all true. We're in kind of a catch-22 position, like pretty much every MAC team. In certain aspects, even more so than a few MAC teams.

That being said I think NIU has some great things going on and all the improvements that lay ahead in academics and athletics will be great regardless of the outcome.

No MAC team is moving directly to a P5 league and there doesn't seem to be a lot of value in moving to the Sun Belt or CUSA. That leaves the AAC and MWC as viable leagues and the MWC would never work for geographic reasons. The AAC already has it's Ohio team in Cincy so most of the MAC is blocked in my opinion from moving to that league as long as Cincy remains. That's why I think Buffalo and NIU are the only schools with any legs to move to the AAC in its current form or close to it due to the lack of market overlap. If Cincy left though, then I could see Toledo being right in the mix to replace them.

I have always thought the best move would be if the AAC lost two (Cincy and one other) and NIU and Toledo moved as a package to replace them.

Good thoughts. Could also be Toledo and Buffalo though.
They both have a dedicated TV market while we seem second fiddle in Chicago if that.
Still, not happening soon IMHO.

This year MAC > MWC football and just slightly behind AAC in football. Moving to any of those leagues would be a tragic misstep for either NIU or Toledo.

On message boards. Yes. Maybe some speculation in a paper from some writer
But has there been any real contact between the schools and other leagues? Not that I've seen or heard.

Exactly and the reasoning it doesn't extend beyond message boards with the AAC, is that it makes no sense lol Breaking the bank for a lateral move is just beyond stupidity.

Big 12 commited to East coast expansion with WV, they are basically stuck now eexclusively taking on East coast schools. Cincy and UConn make the most sense. With those two gone AAC would need to scramble to fill those spots. Toledo, NIU, Marshall would be on their radar. Frazier is just planting the seeds, he obviously knows movement is coming again soon seeing as he has lots of contacts in business. Its a good move by him IMO.

I think Frazier knows that an AAC move would be the death of the program, definitely want to avoid that trap
