I think Frazier knows that an AAC move would be the death of the program, definitely want to avoid that trap

1) AAC has better attendance for football
2) AAC has better tv times/dates for football
3) AAC makes more money from their tv contract for football
4) AAC has more wins vs P5 and G5 schools this season
5) AAC has more football teams ranked, and a higher ranked team then the MACs highest
6) AAC has a win over a ranked team
7) AAC has better bowl games
8) AAC won more bowl games last season then the MAC
9) AAC had more NCAA bids last season then the MAC
10) AAC schools have higher endowments and enrollments
11) AAC had more basketball teams ranked then the MAC
12) AAC schools are located in more desirable travel destinations
13) More AAC schools are located in fertile recruiting ground, in which NIU recruits, then MAC schools.

Anyone else want to add to this list?

14) Less directional schools

Oh, wait, we're a direction school. Wish we could change that 05-stirthepot

The only way it would change the face of athletics would be it would bankrupt the school. The MAC is on par with the AAC, why waste all that money in travel for a parallel move, just makes zero zero zero sense

Those other schools are traveling much farther than NIU on multiple occasions and are doing just fine financially. Is NIU the only school that would have to up their travel budget outside a bus league? You sound as if South Florida is 10 miles from Cinci and NIU would have to travel to Alaska every 3 days for a sport.

If the AAC was a measurably better conference I would be all for the increased cost/expense/student athlete hardship of non-stop cross country travel. But to go to all that heartache to play in a conference at almost the same prestige/quality level of the MAC is so crazy. I don't even know why someone would even dream this would be a good idea. Not only are you making it harder for student athletes for a comparable conference, you are excluding your fans from going to games too. I just don't see in any way shape or form this helps NIU, I can only think of damaging things.

It IS a measurable better conference. How about I spend 2 minutes and name 10 metrics.

1) AAC has better attendance for football
2) AAC has better tv times/dates for football
3) AAC has better tv contract for football
4) AAC has more wins vs P5 and G5 schools this season
5) AAC has more teams ranked, and a higher ranked team
6) AAC has a win over a ranked team
7) AAC has better bowl games
8) AAC won more bowl games last season then the MAC
9) AAC had more NCAA bids last season then the MAC
10) AAC schools have higher endowments and enrollments

These are all facts with little research required. Your definition of parallel is as stinky as poop.

As for NIU away game attendence, we only bring a few hundred fans max to away games in the MAC as it is. That is a trivial factor. NIU recruits heavily in Florida and Texas, which would give us better in roads and give the players family and friends a chance to see them play more often. So once again your negative factor os meaningless.

Right now the AAC is the 7th ranked football conference and the MAC is 8th, what's to say that doesn't flip around next season

I know in the MAC main board there are a lot people that like to do tiers, well with the G5 you have 2 tiers

MAC
AAC
MWC
______________________________
CUSA
Sunbelt

So you make a very very minute nudge up in tier 1,is that worth the tremendous cost. In my books, not even close.

You are the only person on the planet who would put the MAC in that upper Tier. Like it or not, they are definitely in that bottom Tier. One could even argue they are only above the Sunbelt. Personally, I think the MAC and CUSA are pretty even at this point. The MAC has stability in its favor to maybe give them an edge.

Not sure why you think simply wanting something to be true makes it so. I want the MAC to be a better conference too, but I can't fool myself into ignoring fact after fact that proves otherwise.

Caught some.

Main topic was the video released this week (Topic of this thread.)

SF pounds the table on the positives of NIU.
Touched on what TCU did.
SF admits this is a tough job but he wouldn't want it any other way.
Mentioned the Silent Phase.

Nothing new to this board...but another opportunity to talk NIU which Holmes often does on his show.

SF is one passionate dude.

On the academic side including endowments, almost no MAC schools are similar. The majority of AAC schools are located in cities and are urban campus and most are major comprehensive universities that have Health Science Campuses and a University Hospital/Medical Schools with operating budgets for that portion of their University sitting around $500 Million dollars and overall operating budgets hovering around $1 Billion dollars, along with endowment sizes over $250 million or more and growing. That being said only a couple of schools in the MAC fit that criteria including U of Buffalo and U of Toledo.

If anyone can position NIU to move to the AAC it is SF. But we don't fit the profile of the other schools in terms of demographics, money, and attendance. Unless several schools defect, I would rank NIU's chances of getting into the AAC only slightly higher than getting into the Big 12, which is zero.

We need to at least get some of the stadium upgrades done even if we aren't going anywhere. Putting in extra seats should be a low priority though even if the seats would make it a "bowl" and look more like an official stadium. At least for now.

Exactly. I have mentioned similar before. Not many comprehend or have an iota what you are talking about. That for these schools, even many P5 schools football is peanuts and many times lose money on paper. And B12 is even bigger. Texas has more $ than the entire MAC combined I think. OSU also I believe. The ticket revenue is chump change.

Also need to keep in mind the economic impact on a CITY. DeKalb is more of a community. Many P5 schools have a city that operates around the school be it hospitals, research, etc. They get the 10's of millions if football revenue each weekend in addition to the $ flow created by the university. DeKalb area, hardly.

Nice, BUT the "aac" has shown up a few times in the Frazier corners and the other ones are all aaa, aab, aac or aad. So there is some website logic going on to the address.

I have never seen such a rabid following for such a diminishing conference like there is on this board. NIUSox10, Dogpoundnorth, PridenPack, why don't you guys just stay on AAC boards if you think that product is so superior, I don't quite get why you are still here.

Diminishing to the point that CBS Sports thinks they have an outside chance to become the sixth Power Conference.

The front page of the NCAA Football Section on CBS Sports.com:
American uprising
Solomon: The American Athletic Conference has arrived. Memphis, Temple and Houston are all in the Top 25, hoping to one day turn the Power Five into the Power Six. Story

This alternate reality you live in must be an interesting place.

I don't have to think it's superior to the MAC, I mean, I know it is. But i'm an NIU alum who wants us to get to the next level, not waste away in a terrible conference like the MAC.
