I really want to add Navy, but I cannot at the moment.
The only way Navy gets an spot if they win out, ND wins out, the AAC eats each other and Toledo loses one game and Public backlash forces the issue. Even that is a stretch.

Yep, that could happen, and no G5 would have as big a win than WKU.
I remember going to see LSU play WKU four years ago, when LSU was #1. The final score was 42-9, but at halftime it was just 14-7 and WKU had actually outplayed LSU to that point. And this WKU team is much better and LSU isn't as good.
This game is no gimme, a massive TRAP game for LSU before the Alabama game.

We would have played the same amount (and quality) of P5 teams and we would have played more ranked teams (1-2 versus 1).
Not flaming just an honest question how you think that would happen.
Some people here are basing it on how the polls look right now. The playoff committee poll wont be based on when who got into the AP/Coaches poll. The true poll is coming out next week and assuming the 3 AAC teams win this week and Toledo this is what we have.
7-0 Temple key wins ( Penn St, Cincinnati, Tulane/ECU)

RE: Who gets the G5 spot
just looking at Penn St- they will almost certainly finish with at least 7 wins- and quite possibly 8 wins. They have 5 and still have Maryland, Illinois, and Northwestern left- with only Northwestern on the road. Finish with Michigan and Michigan St- but still 7-8 wins.
Also- the CFP poll doesn't come out next week. It comes out the following week(Nov 3).

How? UH would have beaten two legit ranked teams late in the year not one overrated one at the start of the season.
Memphis will be ranked when we play them and if Temple wins the East they will be as well.
Worst case we play one legit ranked team in November versus 1 overrated team in September.
Not saying we are winning out. With our OL injuries its far from a given but if we it came down to Toledo and UH it isn't even close and I 'm just giving you the most obvious reason and not the minute details.
Same # of P5 wins, stronger SOS, etc.

Still better than the wins Toledo has...That's the truly funny part.

The Penn State win is looking less and less impressive as the season goes on as well.
That may or may not be true. That is why they play the games.
West Virginia may want to worry about how they look though. Another finish around .500 looks probable with their schedule.
Poor baby!
FYI, WVU is through the toughest part of the schedule after the TCU game. Three of the 4 teams we played this month are in the top 15, and the 4th is top 25. I'm not at all concerned about WVU making a bowl game, since I still feel the Mountaineers can finish in the top 3-4 of the Big XII this season.
Just be glad your Temple Owls didn't have a similar schedule. That would have ended any talk about Temple, which will happen immediately after they play Houston or Memphis anyway.

RE: Who gets the G5 spot
Going to be tough for WVU to finish top 3-4 of the Big 12. They lose to TCU they would be 0-4. TCU, Baylor, and Oklahoma St all undefeated plus tiebreaker. Oklahoma should finish with 5-6 wins pretty easily... Oklahoma St biggest question of all 3- and they still have Kansas and Iowa St to get up to 5 wins.
Just looking- I think the Texas Tech/WVU game on 11/7 could be for 5th place. The thing for WVU though, if they lose that game- they would be going into the Texas game on a 5 game losing streak- where a loss in that game and they would need a win at Kansas St last game of the season to just get to 6-6.

WVU will beat TCU next Thursday. TCU's defense is the most depleted defense in the nation, due to injury. They have no depth in the secondary or at LB. That's going to make it hard for them to maintain against the Mountaineer offense.
IMO WVU's defense can stop TCU more than TCU can stop WVU.

Yeah, they will likely lose three of their last five.
Still, they do have Notre Dame. If they beat the Irish, and ND doesn't lose again, that will be enough to move them to the fore of the G5 Access race.
Even if they lose 3 of 5- that's still 7 win season. Better than Arkansas or iowa St.
Memphis and Temple right now 100% control their own destiny. They win out, they are the G5 rep. Houston probably does as well- just because of how Memphis and Temple have done.
Memphis and Temple, certainly.
Houston, far iffier. No marquee OOC game.

RE: Who gets the G5 spot
with tonights UCLA/Cal game- we're down to only like 10 undefeated P5 teams and only 9 1 loss P5 teams. and only 17 2 loss teams. So only 36 P5 teams with fewer than 3 losses. With how much is left of the season, I am starting to wonder if Toledo could conceivably get in even if Memphis or Temple wins out. I never thought it was much of a chance before- but with how bad some of these P5 conferences are- if it ever was going to happen- it'd be this year..

RE: Who gets the G5 spot
ESPN people are saying that Temple wins over Notre Dame next week, and wins out including the CCG? Temple will be one of the 4 playoff teams.
If Memphis wins out and beat Temple in the CCG? They will get in ahead of Alabama in the 4 playoff spots.
Houston could get in because they were a known power school from the SWC.
Toledo could get the access bowl.
The experts say the AAC is a much better conference than some of the P5. PAC 12 could wind up with teams with 2 or more loses, and so could the SEC.

Those SWC days are an increasingly long time ago. We have people on this board old enough to remember those days but most younger fans don't remember and it's too frustrating and tiring to explain for them how good and relevant UH used to be.
