Every year there's letters to the editor regarding parking and Breeze articles, etc. You can oldManYellsAtTheClouds.jpg me, but I don't see it. I haven't had a ridiculously difficult time parking , and the times I have it was my fault because I didn't have enough time to park where i thought i could, then go find another spot in a neighboring lot. That's not a parking problem, that's a preplanning problem on my part because there's not a parking deck next to the particular building I'm trying to access. The hotspots are mostly full - east campus commuter, Champions Deck, Warsaw deck, etc - but basically there's always spaces in R1, R2, C4, and convo... people just don't want to walk from there.

Despite the parking complaints, JMU added a billion spots where Rockingham/Hojos was, and the Mason/Main/MLK parking deck opens in 9 months, so there's some growing pains, but I really don't think it's worth the space the complaints have taken up in the newspaper this year. There's more spaces added, there's more coming, and there will be a huge bump when the convo deck gets done (in before the complaints about no parking anywhere while it's being built and the spaces taken offline because of convo construction).

Very accurate, parking at college campuses always has been and always will be an issue. It was an issue back in 1991-1995 when I was there.

The parking is much better than it was then. And as Deez noted, there are always parking spots available, just not where they want to park.

I have no idea of the project status, but I would look for the MLK/Mason st deck to reach substantial completion this week. Only a couple pieces of that jigsaw puzzle to sling into place, and the crane ought to be outta here. Install the electrical and brickwork/finishes and that project is done.

Perhaps it's just the vision of meals served under a temporary tent. Images of military "mess" halls come to mind.....<shivers>

Trust me this can be done and can be done pretty well. In Louisa County a few years back our entire HS was destroyed in an earthquake. In a matter of months they had an entire mobile campus complete with cafeteria. It was not idea but it was way better than anything I imagined.

The difficult part is tying in to the existing public utilities/water/sewer. The actual structure while not being that pleasing to the eye, should not be an issue.

When there is highway expansion we all have to live with the inconvenience of the actual construction. A few years later you can't even remember. Many will wind up having fond memories of eating in the tent. I'm sure they can go to ehall if they don't like it. You will find that being closer will overcome the atmosphere.

I watched Godwin Hall being constructed for 2 years to only get to play in it one year. It happens.

I'd love to see this as well. While I loved D-Hall during my time there (1995-1999), it always bothered me that its architectural style didn't match the bluestones. I believe strongly that if you're going to be up on top of the hill, you need to be covered in bluestone. No Exceptions.

I saw the alumni email about D-Hall's final meal on May 6th. Sucks since I have a wedding that weekend. Gonna have to get me some Last Supper sometime before it closes.

this one is awful resolution, but it's coming up Bluestone Drive from the Bookstore I believe. 3 stories - food court style on the bottom, d-hall on 2, and banquet hall on 3. Demo this summer, new building opens for fall 2018 - a 2 year build.

have a better idea for where to build a temporary building for 2 years? Godwin field?

Not saying they shouldn't or there's a better location... Just gonna suck but it's needed.

I imagine it will be frequented by the thousands of students living in the Village just due to location. Kinda like PC Dukes when I was there. It's not great, but it's close.

WHSV has linked some better renderings on their news story this morning. They're dated a year ago but I'd presume them to be close to what's going in.

It's not a circle... I don't approve. It needs to be circular and have doorways that pretend to lead somewhere but really don't.

Seriously, it looks awesome and I'm jealous.

I took my daughter (HS Junior) on an official visit last Tuesday and we had lunch in D-Hall. She didn't understand why I was so excited! She does now!!

It has to perpetually reek of urine, regardless of how well the housekeeper cleans it.
