RE: Nice shout out for the backfield
Having those 2 guys in the backfield for another year or two really takes the pressure off having to have another Vad Lee at QB to be successful.

Also the fact we have so much talent that we can pull and move guys around to build such a strong O-line speaks to the coaching staff's ability to find and develop that talent.

RE: Nice shout out for the backfield
Quote:THE TANDEM: QB Vad Lee and RBs Khalid Abdullah and Cardon Johnson
THE STATS: Lee (1,175 yards passing, 14 TDs and 503 yards rushing, 4 TDs) and Abdullah (412 rushing/6 TDs) and Johnson (401/5).
THE WORD: In this situation, you just sort of choose your favorite way to get scorched. Want the QB to break away? Cue on the two talented running backs and watch Lee–the former Georgia Tech standout–fly down the sideline for another one of his electrifying plays. Gonna take away the pass? Good luck cowboy … nobody has stopped this train yet. It could probably hang 40 points on half of the FBS this year. To think this team has three players averaging more than 100 rushing yards a game is a bit nuts.

That's great. I don't think I realized we had three players averaging 100 rushing per game. That's insane.

RE: Nice shout out for the backfield
I've been thinking that this whole season. We have a backfield that is better than any FCS school and at least 50% of P5 schools. Our WR's are studs. Deane is a great receiving threat and even our backup TE is a good target. Our line has been solid, making all of it possible.

Drive result breakdown this year (just looking at overall stats, may not be 100% accurate):
Rushing TD: 19
Passing TD: 12
Field Goal Made: 5
4th down lost: 3
Field Goal Missed: 2
Punt: 15
Fumble lost: 2
Interception: 10

Total drive results: 68
Scored a TD: 46%
Scored a TD or FG: 53%
Punt: 22%
Turnover: 18%
Missed conversion or FG: 7%

Those are some incredible numbers. We're scoring on over half of our drives and most of those were touchdowns. Also, keep in mind that some of those punts were 2nd stringers in the first few games (4 punts, 1 failed 4th-down conversion).

Just had this conversation with someone at lunch in case our worst case scenario with an injury happened at QB - I think we have so much talent Schor could come in and keep winning.

Nice shout out for the backfield
I'm not sold on the WR's being great. I think there are some good ones, but none that a defense has to gameplan for.
They look like FCS receivers to me with the exception of Domo who hasn't had enough opportunities to command a defense's attention yet.

The running game is pretty impressive though with an O-line that had question marks to start the year. The way things are going I don't know if either RB will be keyed on this year. Opponents want to cut off the head of the snake (Lee) so the RB's should continue to get big plays.

To me, it is the lack of a weakness that makes the offense so good. I don't see any NFL players on that side of the ball, but I don't see any holes either.

I don't think any of our receivers are as good as either of the two starters from last year, but I still think they're well above average as a unit, which is all you need with the backfield we have.

RE: Nice shout out for the backfield
I like Ravenel is really good. And Domo made some tough catches last week. I think our drops are way down from last year. And both backs are good, glad we are sticking with two.

Is Hart actually watching these receivers in action or just looking at measurables like an NFL scout? I think our WR corps is above average for FCS at the least.

RE: Nice shout out for the backfield
I will say there were some miscues between QB and WRs last week...not sure if that was on Vad or the WRs. Someone wasn't doing the right thing. No, no one is amazing on their own, but they're all solid. They have generally caught the balls that were thrown near them and have even made some catches they shouldn't have. Not nearly as many drops as years past either. Obviously none are as good as Brown, but I don't think we need them to be. It would be nice to bring in another super tall receiver for redzone or hail mary situations, though at this point unless someone stops us on the ground we need to just keep pounding the ball down their throat once we're down close.

RE: Nice shout out for the backfield
Just my opinion. I think the backfield > the receiving corps. Teams gameplan and commit extra defenders to stop JMU's running game. I don't know if any of the receivers will ever be double teamed nor should they be. None of the WR's are weak spots though and they are able to benefit from the A+ run game.

The question I would ask is, Which WR strikes fear into the opponent?
The coaching staff has used the phrase "strength of the unit" this year and I think it is fitting for the WR group. There are no stars, but the unit is strong with plenty of good players.

Of course, I could be crazy too.03-old

I would agree that Khalid & Cardon rate higher than our WR corps as a group vs. group comparison. Just don't know how often you see a receiver at this level that draws that level of attention. Daniel Brown was fantastic for us, but defenses weren't focused on him primarily.
