RE: NIU/Cal State predictions
An impressive win, down by 10 in the 2nd half, win by 7

Plenty of mistakes were made, did not shoot the ball well, but when we get going we have some really athletic players who are fun to watch.

Glass half full

Is he a JUCO? I don't recognize his name. I was on deployment last season so I missed football and basketball seasons.

Yeah, JUCO for sure.

When was the last time NIU was 2-0? Wright State should be a decent test tomorrow.

They win tomorrow that is some great momentum this team needs and could go a long way the rest of the season.

What a great effort today. Twice I thought we were out of it. Although it's a small sample size, I think these Freshman are doing quite well. The freshman Wilson can drive to that rim, Porter is a great passer, and Key is holding his own in the paint.

RE: NIU/Cal State predictions
Huskies actually shot fg better today(46%) than last night. They shot 3pters almost the same as last night. Last night they made 11 and today they made 8, 3pters. If, they are going to shoot 3's this well, they are going to have a terrific season. They were horrible from the free throw line or they run away with this game.

It looks like its the first time NIU won its first two games against D1 competition since the 2006-07 season when NIU beat Duquesne two times in a row to start the year. (NIU lost its next 9 after that). Now this is the first time NIU has beaten 2 DIFFERENT D1 opponents to start a year since the 1999-2000 season, when NIU started out by beating Boston College, and Florida International. If NIU beats Wright State tomorrow, it will be the first 3-game win streak to start a season against D1 competition since the 1994-95 season when NIU went 8-0 to start the year. NIU finished 18-10 that season.

NIU did start 2-0 last year but one of those was vs Aurora

I see CSUN had a huge 2nd half to rally to beat Wright State, that's a good sign for tomorrow's winability.

I think they would be competitive in the MAC. They are pretty sound fundamentally, especially in the first half, the box outs they had were pretty textbook, and of course they were on fire from 3. I am not sure where this season is going, there are going to be down periods for sure with the youth. But there is one thing every single Huskie fan should be optimistic about and that is the next 3 years, the level of talent that has been infused into this program is like nothing we have seen for a long long long long time at NIU, and IF this core stays together they will at least be playing for championships if not next year, the year after that no doubt. This kind of reminds me of the talent Ohio put together a few years back when Cooper was there. Really was glad Maric had a better game today, if there is one huge negative right now, it is the Zelis thing. I know its a limited sample size, but I am not positive what his role is going to be, at times he has not looked like D1 talent. I hope he can improve. There was a sequence today where he got a nice pass under the hoop and just was so soft and could not finish, got fouled and missed 2 FT's. I hope he can adjust some to the speed of the game at the D1 level, because early on it is apparent he is a ways away from that.

Bowie was chucking up 3 pointers during warm ups today while sitting on the bench , is that a good thing for a bad shoulder (he made 1 after 15 attempts hah). It is scary to think about starting next season if a healthy Highsmith can be injected into this team. That might be the one thing this team is lacking is a true slasher and finisher, he could be such a great compliment to the skill set on the team already. Pauga would get many open looks if Highsmith was there. Its becoming clear if Pauga gets an open look, the dude is not going to miss.

Can't remember when Huskie basketball has been this exciting to follow, and when the future looked so bright. I know people are going to say "we suck" and "same old same old" when this team has extended dry periods (which are certainly coming with this youth combined with the quality and depth of the MAC), but it is really clear to me that this team is on a path right now that is headed toward good places down the road. We may lose Monty in 2 years.
