Now, this is the type thread that needs to go away. It only serves to embarrass all Dukes.

UVA is poorly coached (which is an understatement) and lack the discipline to defend an offense like ours. They were bullied by W&M's lines. They struggle against mobile QBs, as they aren't disciplined to maintain containment, they don't cover bubble screens well, and aren't particularly deep to keep up with with our pace. Their OL is weak, and their OC has no idea how to use their talented players. With Vad Lee, we would have no problems dropping 40 on them every time we played, and force enough bad plays, they would mentally crumble.

Agree. UVA and Tech obviously have better talent overall but we'd beat them. Enough good coaching, execution, attitude, and teamwork can overcome talent all day long.

Maybe in Week 4, but not after Week 7.

Be not confused, brethren; read more deeply into the text. The reference herein to "best football team" was to the team with the best character and integrity, and our willingness to "lose" the past two weeks was an expression of our greatness. You see, it was only due to deep-seated feelings of charity that the Dukes deigned permit Richmond and Bill et al. to score more points these past two games. Since we all know JMU is the best, what further evidence did we need? Those "losses" were simply a gift to the poor, long-suffering athletic supporters found in Richmond and Williamsburg, who needed that emotional lift.

Sagarin Predictors.

4-5 VT 37
3-5 UVA 73
7-2 JMU 96
6-2 WM 102
7-1 UR 124
4-4 Liberty 172
3-5 ODU 182
2-7 VMI 211

I dont think a 9-0 JMU would be higher than 4-5 VT at 37 or a 3-5 UVA at 73, but they would be very close to UVA. Current FCS teams better than UVA are: NONE. SDSU is close at 76, NDSU at 79, Harvard at 80, and Ill St at 81 are all within 10 spots of UVA. Just to reiterate, not one FCS team in the country is currently rated higher than a 3-5 UVA team.

In was fun to talk about JMU being the best and everyone was hopeful to get a chance to run the table and brag about being the best. As I have said since the beginning, a VT with a losing record would still be top 50 and would still be the best team in VA.

...according to a gambling predictor.

The "Sagarin Predictor" rating is not a gambling predictor. It is a predictor where the score is the only thing that matters and it is a very good predictor of future results. While it may be used by gamblers to help make decisions with their bankrolls; it is not, at it's core, a "gambling predictor".
With that being said; Any tool that a gambler might use is inherently valuable for discussions such as these. There is no better judge of any marketplace than to follow the money. In the corporate world you can follow stock prices/valuations. Its how we know that Apple is better than Microsoft. Its how we know that Coke is better than Pepsi. If you use the eyeball test or general sentiment when you are choosing which stocks to buy, you end up owning donkeys like Twitter instead of huge gainers like Southwest Airlines. Obviously that would not be ideal.
Thats why, in the sports world, you follow the sharp money instead of your eyeballs or overall sentiment. If a team is overvalued or undervalued the smart money in the marketplace will make the adjustment. You can look at any/all subjective ratings or rankings you want. I will follow the money.

Just for giggles, I image if JMU had gone 11-1ish in 2010 with the win over VT, VT would still have been ranked higher than JMU in Sagarins, but you couldn't have actually argued that VT was the better team.

Obviously it doesn't matter and its unique due to the head to head, I'm just stating that if JMU was 9-0 right now, I'd still consider them the best team in VA over a couple FBSs with losing records, regardless of what Sagarin was reporting.
