RE: Toledo at Ball State game thread
Special teams had several nonsense penalties, I don't think I'd give them a shout out today. Receivers made some challenging catches.

As Boca mentioned, Ball St passing had some success due to ref calls, mostly yards for their passing game. One call against Mathis. The other against Norrils though the announcers made a case for the call. Over-all I thought our secondary did well. Tackling has been really good or is that selective memory on my part?

Watching BSU "tackle" showed me just how good our defense is. Our backs broke tackle after tackle. Very weak performance in that regard by BSU. And, yea, after Ely got excited about finally finding receivers who could catch, our guys decided to emulate the BSU defenders and make some catches of their own!

Yes, after Ely found throwing the ball in front of our receivers instead of behind gives them a better chance at making the catch, the RBs became much harder to tackle. 03-wink He still seems to think they have a need to lay-out. Be kind of nice if he could hit them on the run more, like the long reception by Russell.

Boggled my mind on one early play, our WR (Thompson?) had a step, over the middle and the ball was two feet off the ground and way in front, the WR had to lay-out and the announcer is calling it "perfectly placed." How do you run after catch while laying on the ground?

Tackling has been one of our strong suits I think.

Anybody see us do a direct snap to Swanson yesterday. I was talking to somebody and looked back just as Swanson got the ball- looked like it was from the snap.

If it is the same play I am thinking of, it wasn't a direct snap, just a bad one that was kinda half-way between Ely & Swanson, that Swanson grabbed and covered up.

Ummm... how many dropped balls does it take to find a way for them to stop dropping them and catching them??? Ely has been dead on this season!! in the home opener... dropped passes were plentiful... after delivered directly into their hands
