The game against Missouri, while not fluky, is not as impressive as it originally looked. Getting handled by Kentucky (a team ULL hung with) and only winning 9-6 over Connecticut shows that they as a team are down. Other than that, since Knighten has been out the offense has been abismal. Regardless of how Idaho is, they put 20 on Georgia Southern in the first half and held their own on defense. (We've all seen what Southern's offense can actually do.)

Rant over. But the seniority praise and subjective nature of some of these score predictions makes me ask the question.

Years of being burned by thinking that this is the year stAte will be down have taught us to be very wary or reports of stAte's demise

Wyoming at Appy -- Appy wins 34-10.
Liberty at GSU -- GSU wins 38-28.
USA at Troy -- Troy 21-17.
Idaho at Arkansas State - ASU wins 39-33
ULL at La. Tech - La-La wins 21-20
NMSU at New Mexico -- Lobos win 31-14

GS at ULM -- Southern's got to lose in the Sun Belt eventually, I think, this might be the time. I hope not, and think the Eagles will find a way to pull out a close one. Eagles win say 30-28.

RE: Week 5: Sunbelt Prediction Thread
Wyoming 9 App State 49 - App owes the Cowpokes from the beating they took from them at their place to open the 04 season.
Liberty 38 GSU 41 - Panthers at home finally win a track meet.
USA 24 Troy 27 - Just going with the home team.
Idaho 21 stAte 24 - Just playing the percentages; Idaho seldom wins and it's a long trip.
GS 24 ULM 21 - The Belt GOTW. Expect a slobberknocker but creases turn into touchdowns too often with the Eagles.
ULL 28 LaTech 27 - Rivalry game on the road for the Cajuns coming off of a horrible game against Akron...insures the upset.
NMSU 31 NMex 34 - Just playing the percentages again. Lobos get the ball last and win.

Come on Apps, GSU, ULL and NMSU the Belt needs some OOC magic.04-chairshot

I was thinking it wouldn't be until Oct 22nd.

Only toss-ups this week are USA/Troy and ULL/La.Tech.

App, Liberty, ASU, GaSo and NM should be locks.

Not so fast my friend. Georgia State's clock has been pointing up since their 17 fourth quarter points against Charlotte. Simply because Liberty beat Appalachian last season, does not mean they are a shoe-in against Georgia State. The UAB transfer's seem to have helped out and around this time of year is when you will start to see the mesh point. I expect Georgia State to win, and I don't really expect it to be close.

And considering the way Louisiana has played this season, I wouldn't consider their game a toss-up. They are missing, as I've said several times today, last year's defensive line. If you can't get off the field on third down you aren't going to win many games.

I'm not going to consider a team turning it around because they scored 17 late points against Charlotte. I think Liberty beats Charlotte straight up as well. In fact, I believe any top 25 team in the FCS beats Georgia State or Charlotte, not because Liberty beat App last year, but because top 25 FCS is generally better than the bottom 25 FBS.

In the case of the Cajuns, it's a rival game, they have revenge on their mind and they did play Kentucky pretty even, for what that's worth.

And then lost handily to Akron at home. To me this comes down to consistency of coaching and the ability of the staff to lead. I still think Georgia State is trending up. The lost to Charlotte when breaking in many new players and their better play began down the stretch of that game. Complete with 28 points at a down Oregon team, and a win at NMSU (which is also nothing to write home about). It's a mindset really, expect to lose, and lose. They were able to overcome that against NMSU and pull out a win. I expect that will carry over to this game.

03-lmfao

ODU has a better offense than Wyoming. Their defenses may be similar.

Wyoming is averaging 400 yards a game. They have trouble finishing drives though and their defense sucks.

(09-28-2015 11:38 AM)LatahCounty Wrote:  I don't think Idaho gets clobbered in Jonesboro. But our defensive depth issues keep showing up in the 4th quarter and probably kill us again this week. StAte, 38-28. Also:

GS by 14 over ULM
App by 24 over Wyoming
UNM by 17 over NMSU

I haven't seen the other teams enough to make a pick.

A-State still does not know what level of opposition Knighten, Tabary and their oc Bell can be successful against.

At this point they only know that it is higher than MoSt, but they were over their heads against everyone else they have payed.

To bad because they have the talent at the other positions to have beaten Mizzo (and should have), maybe even Toledo, and been very competitive against USC.

Hopefully the three mentioned above will find the competition in the SBC more in line with their limited talents ( Tabary and Bell are young so they have room for improvement).

Edited note: Other than the performance of their qb's (who have been terrible), A-State looks like they have improved across the board, especially on the DL. They give great effort regardless of the score, so I look for good things from them at some point. Not sure the current level of play at the qb position means this year or not, but the the other pieces are there right now.
