Football rules at W&M and our season won't end until January 9th. Student attendance at basketball games should pick up after that.

I was there in 1993 when graduation was in Zable. 105 degrees. Bill Cosby. We should never do that again. Ever.

This, by the way, is myth, though it was believed by even the AD at one time. The issue was the strength of the cable holding the scoreboard, and somehow, by the time the problem was communicated through channels, the powers that be thought the issue was the roof.

So why not get a stronger cable????

And a new AD 05-stirthepot

That being said, the section right under the banners...

Why not add more seating there and make that place even louder, and more opportunity to bring in more money?

UNCW recently added a multimedia scoreboard, and it looks great. I'm not in any way trying to pump our chest, but if they can do that in old freaking Trask... it shouldn't be an engineering issue at Kaplan.

I liked the court design.

What's with the tiny student section? Was that just because it was a guaranteed win game, or are they always in that same small section opposite of the visitor's bench?

Student turnout depends a lot on the opponent/how the team is doing. Next game or two is over thanksgiving break, but I'd bet the ODU game will have a great turnout, especially for a Tuesday night

The drapery idea will work. I've seen it done at the Key Arena in Seattle. When the Supersonics left Seattle U moved in and turned the 14,000 arena into 7,000 with drapes the color of the seats.

Build it in the parking lot area right next to the current arena. No need to play anywhere except Kaplan until the new one is finished. Footprint would be smaller compared to the current concrete dinosaur.

When you get a chance to go to a newer arena that seats between 7-10 thousand folks you'll see how different it is from the sight lines, distance from the court, etc. ODU's arena is a good example. Much better atmosphere, and yes most arenas are closed on all four sides.

Yeah, we'll just put it... where exactly? Play games in Adair for a year? Have graduation in Zable? Okay, the last one sounds like a pretty cool thing.

Nope. I'm from North Carolina. I was making a joke about UNCW's inability to join the 21st century, or 20th for that matter, and have a football team.

Yeah. That was a terrible name I used while stationed there without realizing I couldn't change it. So now it's more broad... Coast Guard. Lol

So just how did ODU afford that? I assume they're working with the same constraints that we are.

They have more students and therefore more alumni to give. Their bball program was successful for years and although mediocre of late still able to shake the donors for change. Football has been great for them and generated a lot of local interest and thus sponsors.

Opportunity for my yearly rant. The parking situation at Kaplan is an embarrassment. We want more people to come, but we take up a giant section with trailers for... I don't even know what now. Last Saturday game people had nowhere to park - what is going to happen for the gold rush game?!?!

They have a plan, of sorts.

Not as good a plan as "get the dang trailers out of the Hall lot", but it's something.

ODU was pushing for this practice facility while they were still playing in The CAA . At halftime of one of their NCAA tournament games, while still in the lonely CAA, they had an assistant AD or such, on their local broadcast pushing for $$$$ for this building. So, it took awhile but they got what they wanted and what they needed.
